2006-09-12 [spincrus]: The "self inspired design" should also go into the portfolio. Reason is because it looks vectoresque. If it's for applying for an art school, here's a handy tip from someone who's got thousands of friends at art schools, one of them being an assistant of illustration in MICA, who also happens to review applications quite a bit: anything that's in the anime style should be limited to only, ONLY 1% of the portfolio.

It's even best if you leave them completely, but it's something that defines your art, so you might want to select one or two anime-style stuff to go into the portfolio.

Other than that, anything that has to do with manga-style is seriously shunned upon by art school people.

2006-09-12 [spincrus]: IF, on the other hand, it's for a job application, I'd still go for the more vectoresque stuff. Manga would do, but should resemble vector-art. Maybe one or two painting jobs to show what you're also capable of.

2006-09-12 [Sunny Silverunicorn]: Hey there, I chose the pieces I thought would definately look good in your portfolio, and I also think if you add "India Ink and Graphite Sketch" too, it'll be good, cause what I define as graphic design is a simple art piece that holds a great deal of importance and meaning, and that's what i chose my choices on. :)
