Bethlem

Banner by the ever-so-blonde [The Blonde Witch] :D

In the middle of the English countryside, nestled in the middle of forest covered hills, almost completely surrounded by a clear, running river and accessible only by a single, winding road, is Bethlem.

Bethlem Mental Institute, a self-sufficient asylum, designed so that the outside world could forget about its existence – about the existence of the mentally insane patients imprisoned within. And it did.

In the lower levels of the asylum, that descend deep within the earth; something was awoken. And from that day onwards, a shadow hung over Bethlem. What was once the institute at the forefront of scientific discovery fell into slow decay. As time passed, what had been awoken deep within the building grew stronger, and festered, and fed.

Its influence spread, communications to the outside world ceased. And everyone forgot about Bethlem.

Occasionally, a new patient arrived, destined to live out the remainder of their days behind the slow, crumbling walls of the asylum. Their well-intentioned relatives could never quite remember the name of the asylum where they had left their loved one, but they were sure it was top class. And gradually, they forgot they’d even got a brother, or a son, or a cousin tucked away in some forsaken institute.

Your arrival is one of several, even as they leave down the winding road which will take them back to civilisation, the name of the asylum is slipping from the memory of those who brought you.

Welcome to Bethlem, prison of the forgotten. Your neighbour is insane, nothing better can be said of yourself. And you may find that your stay will be very short, for in the depths the creature stirs.

Case Files * Schizophrenia

Rules:

1. No power playing. A first post displaying power playing will be deleted, and you will be warned. A second post of the same nature will get you banned from the RP.

2. Your character is not God. They cannot block or dodge every attack, and they are not invincible. Your character's knowledge is limited to what they have been told. You must be able to understand that just because you know something doesn’t mean your character does.

3. No chatspeak or leet talk in the RP. Decent grammar and spelling are also required. If you’re unsure of a spelling, invest in a dictionary. Small mistakes are tolerable, but don’t be offended if someone else fixes a spelling in your post.

4. If you don’t give other people a chance to respond to your post, you don’t stay. You must appreciate that not everyone is online at the same time, and give the time to respond. Don't give characters something to respond to, and then make ten more posts so there's no point in the responding. If you do this, you will be asked to stop. If you continue you will be asked to leave.

5. Please tell us in a comment on the RP or a message if you will be away from Elftown for any length of time. If you are on Elftown, but inactive in the RP for more than a week, we will contact you via a message. If, after another week, you have not become active again, your character will be written out. Of course, if there is a reason for your absence from the RP, we will be more obliging. But please inform us somehow of your absence and whether you intend to return, and when.

6. It's essential that you are prepared to allow your character to get hurt. Possibly severely hurt. If you don't like the idea of your character being injured, go away.

7. This is more of a suggestion than a rule, but spread the insanity-wiki love and give Alexa's Project a visit. Very interesting. :D

So you want to sign up? The bio form can be found on the character bios page (Case Files). RP will take place on Schizophrenia.

2008-11-06 [windowframe]: You could play a sane character who got sent to the asylum for some dark reason! :O

That's fine, but I command you to advertise on our behalf! XP

2008-11-06 [Aradon Templar]: That I may actually be interested :P And I shall advertise at your insistence.

2008-11-06 [windowframe]: Of course it would be interesting! :P

Thanks. :3

2008-11-06 [Delladreing]: Insanity, aahh I know it well, sign me up again :P

2008-11-06 [windowframe]: You never signed up last time you bads person! XP

2008-11-06 [Delladreing]: Well I was a part of Cthulhu, and that's insanity too :P

2008-11-06 [NOOOPE]: Ooo! I saw this a while ago and wished it was open! Sweet! I'll whip up something!

2008-11-06 [windowframe]: W00t! XP

Dela: troofax. :3

2008-11-06 [NOOOPE]: Question first! You wouldn't have criminally insane people here, right? In my city, we have two mental institutions, one for walk in patients and another for criminals.

2008-11-06 [windowframe]: yes, but the criminally insane are locked up tight in the basement where no one ever dare go.

2008-11-06 [NOOOPE]: So they'd probably not get much action, I'm guessing?

2008-11-06 [Duke Devlin]: Oooo! :D I'm happy for my characters to get hurt! >:D *runs away to character page*

2008-11-06 [windowframe]: No, not really, M!. :P Sorry.

2008-11-06 [NOOOPE]: 'S ok. I'll keep thinkin'.

2008-11-06 [Aradon Templar]: Fie, you've already taken the character Raphael :P

2008-11-06 [The Black Cat in Your Path]: Ooooooh, I rather like this! :D

2008-11-06 [Hiro Kitaki]: intresting...a creature huh?

2008-11-06 [Aradon Templar]: Also, has there been a format change? I recall there being a sane section of this RP, Alucinorium or something similar, but mention of it has been erased :P Is it being dropped for continuity's sake? And will we still be periodically going insane, etc?

Edit: Upon further research, the insane section is different, too. Perhaps I am jumping to conclusions :P

2008-11-06 [Evolution X]: Interesting... might join this.

2008-11-06 [moira hawthorne]: wanted to share this with you Bedlam Boys... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osFiQUgZvXw and the lyrics.. http://www.thebards.net/music/lyrics/Bedlam_Boys.shtml

2008-11-07 [windowframe]: Templar, we got rid of the dual pages because the fewer pages, the more likely the RP to survive, it seems. *clickes the yootoob linkage*
