Haiku-A-Day

Can Templar write a haiku a day?

My aim is to train myself to look at something with a new perspective and thoughtfulness every day. If I continually produce a new poem, it'll force me to consider things in new ways. Therefore it's encouraged that I use a limited number of subjects. Originally I had in mind to limit it to simply the weather in a day, but I think a little freedom in subject is helpful.

As this is not a challenge, I don't think it's all that imperative that this be done daily, but that is the goal. It's not like I fail if I don't have time some day, but the more frequently I write something with a poetic edge to it, the closer to enlightenment and free thinking I am.


For those who are unaware, haiku are a common form of poetry originating in Japan. They are brief, three-line poems that are typically reflective and often center around a common object. The first and third line have five 'on', which are similar to syllables (and the two will be considered synonymous for my purposes), and the second line has seven syllables, making a 5-7-5 pattern.

2008-04-06 [Aradon Templar]: Nah, I've tried to put the boring old clouds into a positive perspective, but it's a grey day again today. Getting tiresome :D

2008-04-10 [Aradon Templar]: Reorganized, so the newest haiku is on top, rather than scrolling down all the way. Unless that's preferred o.O I guess I'll move them to a separate page when I get a month's worth. Or perhaps I should do weekly cleanup.

2008-04-11 [iippo]: Maybe boxes/tables could be considered? They are a very particular shape, haikus, and there is a lot of empty space on the wiki, right of the poems.

2008-04-11 [Aradon Templar]: Boxes are working better. Tables would be hard to update because I'd have to shift every poem to the next column when I add, but I think this will work. I wish I could do a box225, though, and fit three on a page :P

2008-04-14 [Aradon Templar]: In explanation of today's (4/14/08) haiku, prime numbers that are six apart are known as sexy primes. There is only one quintuple sexy prime series: 5, 11, 17, 23, 29. Wiki it for more info :)

No good excuse at all, other than I'm not outside anymore because I'm in my house, where I don't need to walk to classes and am spending too much time at the computer.
