2006-05-09 [Nocternity S.]: i dont understand why is this such a big deal. i didnt do anything wrong they have done the same thing to me too
2006-05-09 [Calico Tiger]: This page is currently under the supervision of [Patri] as she is the translator for the news for this language :) Until such time as [Hedda] let's us know otherwise exactly how to handle someone making changes that aren't necessary, a password will be on this page :)
2006-05-09 [Nocternity S.]: they should have told me that, they changed it once on one that i did, and [Sunrose] told me that they could do that, after that i didnt care as much as she is? i dont understand why is a big deal.
2006-05-09 [Sunrose]: Changes should only be made when it concerns mistakes, which wasn't the case here. Don't make changes because you personally like some word better than another, just so you can add your name next to the translation. THAT is why it is a big deal :) // An example: The translation of the word Council. You can see the proper translation that should be used is Concejo, because Concejo is also the word used on the Council-badge. Not Concilio.
2006-05-09 [All_Most PUNK]: Besides that, it's nice when the translations that you upload are correct and don't have things like "¡Entradas creativas que muestren como un Uniforme-Guard
2006-05-09 [Nocternity S.]: but they have done that to me, and the words are the same but different. besides they are words that dont sound right since theres too many places where they speak spanish for example in puerto rico, they use word that in mexico dont use or in spain, and most of the population in united states are from mexico... and theres lot people here from u.s. i just thought that some of the words would sound better in another way. Im sorry if i took somehow a privilege from someone, and whats wrong with "¡Entradas creativas que muestren como un Uniforme-Guard
2006-05-10 [Patri]: What's wrong with "¡Entradas creativas que muestren como un Uniforme-Guard
2006-05-10 [Nocternity S.]: are you a spanish teacher? do you know all the ways you can say something in other places but where you live in? If i knew i was going to cause such a Big Drama, i wouldnt have done anything
2006-05-10 [Sunrose]: That sentence should be: 'Entradas creativas que muestren a qué se parece un Uniforme de Guardia' or 'Entradas creativas que muestren cómo es un Uniforme de Guardia' according to [Acronymous] aka [Anonymous]. An ex-Guard who lives in Spain. So if 2 Argentinians and a Spaniard with Spanish as their mother tongue conclude your Spanish translations are not of very good quality I am more inclined to believe them over you.
2006-05-10 [Sunrose]: [Acronymous] writes: It is the classical problem with translating: the verb "to be" can translate into Spanish in this case as "es", "está" and "parece". Only "es" makes sense in this context. It does not apply because of any specific rule of the Spanish language, it is a matter of context and practice knowing what to use in each case. This proves the translator (you) is an Anglo-speaker, with good Spanish as a secondary language, but needing more practical use of the language itself.
2006-05-10 [Sunrose]: Lastly: You're the one making a spectacle out of yourself.
2006-05-10 [Nocternity S.]: what's the perfect way to write that sentence then? and why are you more inclined to believe them more over me?
2006-05-10 [Nocternity S.]: I changed "Felicitacione
2006-05-11 [Sunrose]: Which sentence exactly? Since I already quoted the perfect way for the sentence being discussed earlier and I don't see how you could've missed it. // I believe them more because I know for sure they speak Spanish as their mother tongue and I trust them as I have known them for a very very long time.
2006-05-11 [Nocternity S.]: Just because you know them for a very very long time doesn't mean im the "bad" person here, why would i lie saying that i speak spanish if i wouldnt? actually i just learned english last year, but you dont know me, and everybodys judges me without knowing me, i dont really care, its not like i was going to win something just for two words that i changed. Its not like i stole something from her either!
2006-05-11 [Patri]: Nobody said you're bad O_O Oh my... Don't you think it's time to stop acting the way you're acting?
2006-05-11 [Sunrose]: Actually only your translations were being critisized, not your personality. I simply have more reason to believe the criticism, because as you said I don't know you and I do know them. I'm sorry if that offends you. And lastly, when someone translates the news they can earn a badge for it.
2006-05-11 [Nocternity S.]: How am i acting? Im just saying what i think, and like i said already i did it because they have done it to me too, and because i thought it would sound better, now i understand that all of you are trying to correct me on other translations i did before, and trying to tell me that it wasnt necessary what i did on this one. yes i understand and i said already that im sorry if i took somehow a privilege from someone. I didnt knew i was going to cause such a big drama. I really do try my best on the other translations, and sometimes i have to do it fast because i dont have enough time and like everybody i do mistakes, but not because of that means that im not good at it.
2006-05-11 [Nocternity S.]: And i dont lie about spanish being my primary language.
2006-05-11 [Nevinz]: I was asked not to comment unless i had something good to say, but i feel i need to inform you that †Nocternity Sanctuary† is a native spanish speaker. the only person making a spectacle of themselves is Patri, She changed two words, and this has started, A quick question concerning the change and a discussion about it amongst themselves, and if Patri wasnt woried about losing her spotlight as a main translator, this could have easily been resolved. I dont see anyone getting opinions from other spanish speaking people, other then the ones you know.
2006-05-11 [Sunrose]: Other native speakers have already been asked their opinions and have said that those of Noct contain mistakes. I understand you're only doing your best, but I also hope you understand that was what [Patri] was doing as well. To end the situation, I suggest everyone just leaves it at this :)
2006-05-11 [Nevinz]: if Patri is going her best as well then why does she not take suggestions? I know Noct changed some words, but she did not know she couldnt not do that, people have changed her translations and no did a thing, but when this one is changed, just because you are all part of elftown council or guards it demands your attention.
2006-05-11 [Sunrose]: Just because something is suggested, doesn't mean it is therefore right. I again refer to the Concejo-term used on the Council-badges for which [Acronymous] has said it to be the right word in this case. If Noct had a specific problem with someone changing her translations into something she did not approve of she could've also brought that up to me. I've never heard an actual complaint though about the changes that were done to her translations, all I was asked by her is if people are allowed to change the translations. Yes, they are but only if they make it better. // It is under my attention since I am a Translationsbo
2006-05-11 [Nevinz]: ok, then why is the change a big deal? both terms are correct, ask someone rather then a person you or her know and see what they think about both terms and how they are used
2006-05-11 [Sunrose]: *sighs* the badge says Concejo, why would we then suddenly use a different term? Or even more so, why change the word in the first place when you yourself just acknowledged that Concejo is correct too? // I asked [Acronymous] for the proper translations without him knowing anything about the situation or who was involved, I trust his opinion. And I don't really care if you do too or not.
2006-05-11 [Nocternity S.]: i already wrote how those words are more likely to be use. up there... and im tired of this its just stupid, i will stop watching the wiki. like everybody should, i hope Patri is happy now.
2006-05-11 [Sunrose]: [Acronymous]: concejo=politi
2006-05-11 [Patri]: "the only person making a spectacle of themselves is Patri, She changed two words, and this has started," <--- [Nevinz] that wasn't exactly what happened, maybe it's the way she told you it was. Maybe she forgot to tell you how politely I asked her to stop changing it abusing the "previous version" button. Maybe she also forgot to mention that she will keep doing it because she "liked" those words more... Second, I'm not the "main spanish translator". In fact, it was the first news I translated for long time. // [Nocternity S.]:"i hope Patri is happy now" <---- It wasn't a matter of happiness...
2006-05-11 [Patri]: And for me, it's over too. I have more important things to do than repeating the same words over and over. So goodbye News360-Spanish for now.
2006-05-11 [Acronymous]: When the badgemaker did the Council badge, she asked for the translation of "Council" to Spanish. [Note: why badges normally have Spanish labels is a long story from early ET]. I told her to put "Concejo" there. The reason is simple. In Spanish "Concilio" is a word normally associated to religious meetings. Concejo is associated to local non religious government. As ET is not a sect, I chose the second. Also, it sounds a bit like "Consejo" (which means "Advice", something that Council people have to do almost everyday!). There is nothing really wrong about using any word, but for the context of the badge, I would always use Concejo. Now I advice you to not argue more about this :D
2006-05-11 [Acronymous]: Mostly because reading all the comments takes long time :P
2006-05-11 [Nevinz]: i am here because its all of you telling her she is wrong, there is no one helping her, she said sorry and you keep going and going
2006-05-11 [Acronymous]: One of the reasons of ET is we all helping each other, when we are right and when we are wrong :)
2006-05-12 [Calico Tiger]: Ok, people who are watching this page for news are getting spammed. The discussion has been discussed and is now ended. Any further "I have the last word" comments will be deleted.
2006-05-13 [All_Most PUNK]: *blows his own head with a Magnum* The voices have stopped :) // One last thing for Noct: The word you looked up in the dictionary was "consejo" when it should have been "concejo". That's all. I'll be quiet now.
