The Lower City Shah Hath
Xialao

The Xialao is the Shah merchant district which connects directly to the mythical mage market of the lower city. As opposed to the hectic nature of the mage market, however, the Xialao is highly regimented and regulated. The stores are all the same size and design, neatly lined up on either side of the road, with nothing but a small banner in Shah language and the goods they display to show what they carry. Unlike the Gannlao that precedes it, the Xialao is controlled by the few Imperial troops the Royal Crown of Daguerre allows into the city. They wear traditional Shah armor, complete with ancient feathered hats, scale and leather armor and long Shah polearms, similar to curved blades on the end of long shafts which normally need to be imported. The Imperial footmen usually let Shadowsword members go through the Xialao undisturbed, though, as they do not care for the coming and going of the organization as long as the empire gets their tax money from the Shah who do business in the Hath.
Two shadowsword enforcers, Nobu & Hiroshi walked into the Xialao from the WoW - Gannlao, escorting Han Daiyu and slowing their pace to let her catch up to them.
Daiyu was a few feet behind the two shadowswords, her crutches and injuries made it hard for her to keep up and she glanced up at them gratefully when they paused but did not acknowledge her problem, allowing her to keep at least some bit of her dignity.
"We can probably get a palanquin, Gaosheng." said simply Hiroshi, who seemed to be the most talkative of the two Shadowswords. "If you wish." he added, not sure if the proud woman would even accept something like that. A pair of Imperial footmen passed them and Daiyu could notice some tense, threatening glances going back and forth between her protectors and these soldiers. It was very rare to see any Imperial soldiers outside of Shah itself, the only city remaining of their once vast empire, a shadow of their formerly glorious capitol city.
It was strange to see Imperial soldiers walking about,
Daiyu found their costumes interesting and beautiful though she could hardly miss the tense glares exchanged with her companions. For one brief moment she had considered the offer of the palanquin but seeing the guards had shifted her in a different direction. < "No. I appreciate the thought but my body has lasted me this long... It would be a shame to quit now."> She declined softly. She did not want to call attention to herself and, perhaps in a misguided impulse, she wanted to face Master Shu on her own two feet, boycotting the palanquin that she knew she was probably expected to take.
<"You've got some guts, Gaosheng. It is honorable if not overly smart."> grinned Hiroshi, to which Nobu added a hearty chuckle, breaking the tension caused by the passing guards. <"Come, we'll be back in our dojo's territory soon."> they added as they moved up the long road towards the WoW - Shilao.
Daiyu dipped her head in acknowledgment of his words, a small pleased smile gracing her lips for a small moment as she hobbled after them to
