I am sort of on a poetry kick at the moment and so, as it is not a short story and therefore not within the guidelines of the competition, I am placing my poem on my house page instead...
Shattered Painting Poem:
I'm only a membrane,
A thing that nobody sees.
Can you imagine what that is like?
To be looked through every day;
Merely a window into another person's soul?
No.
Let me out of this box and I will show you all.
Let me out.
Slam.
Let me out!
Slam!
There! Now you see me -
I am hurt,
Cracked in the corner.
The question is...
Do you even care?
I am an avid reader of Science Fiction and Fantasy. At times I like to think myself a rather good writer of these as well but that is left up to interpretation by my readers. Surprise, The Lord of the Rings (Trilogy) are my favorite films. I love Science Fiction/Fantasy because, of all the genres I have read, these display the imagination and innovation of the human mind the most profoundly. Some day I hope to have my own book sitting on some reader's shelf stacked neatly between Tolkien and Card.
