Elftown is a community for Elfwood artists and hangarounds. It should be easy to find other people here and to discuss whatever you like. So if you like Elftown and want to invite people, but don't know how, this can be helpful.



Sending the invitation through automatic email

If you have been given the ability to invite new members to Elftown, by any of the site's staff, then you should have a new link now on Main Street that reads 'Invite someone to Elftown'. Click on it.

You'll find yourself on a wiki with three fields to fill:

- The email address of the one you wish to invite: Simply introduce the email address here.

- Comment to add to the invitation: What you write here is the message that will be sent along with the invitation. Elftown has a standardized message, but you can add your own words, explaining why you are sending the invitation. This can prevent the mail from being deleted as spam.

- Why this person is invited: Fill this field with the reasons why this person is getting the invitation.
Once the person has joined, you'll be able to see what you wrote in a secret comment on the house. This might be good for you to remember why you invited someone.

The only field that is actually obligated is the email address, the other 2 fields are options.

After you're done, just click on invite and a mail with all the data will be sent to the email address given.



Sending the invitation yourself

If you don't want to send the invitation through automatic email, you can send the invitation yourself. To do so, simply click on invite and you will be taken to a page with several codes. Just send one of these codes to the person you are inviting.
Note: Before you press invite, you could fill in the third field. Each time a new member is created using one of the codes, the same secret comment will be shown for you on their houses. This might again be good for you to remember why you invited them.

Important: Every code can be used only one time, so you need to send a different code to every person.



Who should be invited

Elftown is a community for fantasy and science fiction lovers, whether they are artists themselves, admirers or hangarounds.
Those who share that interest can be invited to Elftown.
Mind though that while hangarounds are welcome, we do have rules everyone needs to abide by. If you suspect that the person won't respect the rules we have, please send them to a community that suits them better instead.



Who invited who

The one who was invited to Elftown can see who invited them.
The Guards can also see who was invited by who.



Score of invites; penalties?

When you have not invited anyone you will see a button that says 'Has invited 0 members'.
When you have invited people and they joined, the button will say 'Has invited # members'. It won't show invitations you have sent that weren't used.

When you press the button, you will be taken to a page that shows the members you have invited.
Above that you will see the following:

Score: #
Invites: #
Penalty: #
List of penalties: [insert membernames here]:-#

For every invite you get a point. However, each time one of the people you invited turns inactive you get a penalty. In the list of penalties it shows which members you received penalties for and how many penalties that adds up to. The amount of invites minus the amount of penalties will determine your score.
Having penalties doesn't do anything bad to your Elftown account, everything stays exactly the same. Consider it a reason though to invite people you think will be active ;)
After all inactive houses don't offer much good to Elftown :)



Anti-ban

Sometimes you can see that people you have invited have an anti-ban. This simply means they can log in from all places. It may happen a certain member is banned, other members logging in from the same place will then be anti-banned so that they can still use Elftown properly.
