Congratulations!
Thank you to all that contributed!
Theme: Fantastic Waters...
Like all the great contests here, this one has a particular theme so no posting photos of your great Aunt Ethel or the neighbour's dog. This time around we want to see MORE CREATIVITY! And we are going to be a lot more picky about what we want to see in the entries.
Water, water everywhere... ok, since the public has spoken, our next theme will be be based on water. HOWEVER, we are not looking for photos of just pretty lakes or waterfalls. We want to see your photos of the homes of water type fantasy creatures: mermaids, fairies and water elementals. NO the creatures don't have to be in the image but we do want YOU to explain what creature you think lives there and why.
Rules:
1.
NO STEALING PHOTOS! Photographs must be taken by Elftowners and posted here by the original photographer. Which means, no matter how much you might like a particular image on somebody's house, you are not allowed to add it here. This includes random images from the net too. TAKE YOUR OWN DARN PHOTOS DON'T STEAL THEM AND TRY TO CLAIM THEM AS YOUR OWN! That makes me angry, very angry indeed.
2.
JUST ONE ENTRY THIS TIME. Sorry guys, just one entry this time around. You only get one chance at this one folks let's make it count!! Please put forth your best effort and the best quality, i.e. no coffe stained, faded Kodachrome photos from the 1960's. Any such entry will be removed. Please keep in mind that it is possible that a photograph has the same title as another one. This is not against the rules as long as the photographers' names are clear.
3.
NO PHOTOMANIPS! Sorry... While this is a photograph based competition, we will not be accepting photomanipulat
ions for this particular contest. We want to see your photos of what best depicts the homes of water loving fantasy creatures, not the creatures themselves.
4. READ THE THEME! If you stick up a photo just because this is a photo competition, your entry will be removed without warning. ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT MEET THE THEME WILL BE REMOVED.
5. EXPLANATIONS ARE REQUIRED! We want to know why you think your photo is a good example of a fantasy creature's home as well as what lives there. Not only that but when and where the photo was taken is required as well.
6. SIZE LIMITATION: Since the chosen images will be featured on Main Street, all will be displayed at a maximum width of 300 pixels. If you would like to post the photo at the original size that's fine but please thumbnail it or ask someone to thumbnail it for you.
7. ALL IMAGES MUST BE UPLOADED TO ELFTOWN! Ask [Sunrose] for wiki-privs if you don't have them already: members who follow the uploading art rules and thus are not troublemakers, will be granted these privs. See advanced help for more information about privs.
8. SUBJECT MATTER: Since the winners will be featured on Mainstreet, images that depict graphic violence, pornography or other disturbing actions will not be accepted. Only photographs that fit the current theme will be allowed.
What will we be expecting? Creativity and lots of water environments perfect for all our water loving fantasy creatures.
Deadline:

61.[Flue]Pixie Brook
As you cross the footbridge over this babbling brook, you can hear the high-pitched laughter and splashes from the water pixies that play and frolic here. There are plenty of places to hide from the prying eyes of Humans or whoever, but if you are quiet enough, you can sneak up on them and hopefully see one or two.... I stumbled across the Pixie Brook while searching through the wilds of Cold Spring Harbor, New York, USA, in August 2005.
62.[IX.Dollface] Departure Awaits
During the day there is nothing in the water but the fish and the grass that grows from it, however if your truly lucky, if you are truly deserving then you can see the sprites and for those without fear but wonder in their hearts and an adventerous soul they will take them to a land of great mystery...Taken at Island Lake, Alberta, sometime in August.
63. [Kuruni] Hobbit River
I took this picture a week ago, this river is located 10 minutes from my town in San jose Costa Rica.
A Hobbit hole is right next to the river, so this river belongs to a nice chubby Hobbit who goes there every afternoon with his pipe, sits on that big rock there to watch the sunset and smoke peacefully, then he sits in his living room by the fire to read a good book and have a snack :D
64. [Li-Ga] Small waterfall - the perfect habitat for tiny water dragons.
Most of the people who walk near this place do not seem to notice little caves in the bushes near the waterfall. However, the lucky ones who stayed there at night could see the beautiful night dance of tiny water dragons. When the night falls and only the moonlight reflects on the water, the dragons come outside to fish, dance and to meet their relatives.
Taken in autumn 2004, at the north of Israel.
65. [Thalier]- Angel water
well this is a small stream that runs near this house. i think that its home to water angels who watch over this clear water, luking in amongst the fern leaves and diving off them into the water.
taken in October 2005, london
66. Sheepy Mist [BirdHouse107]
This is a massive lake near the town i live. I went fishing there last week and at about 6:35 in the morning temperatures started to rise causing a high amount of fog to rise. This fog hides the deeps of the water from the rest of the world, also hiding what lies beneath.
Taken: October 16 2005 by [BirdHouse107] at sheepy magna lake.
67. Fountain by [Truth . Beauty . Love]
A blue water fairy lives here. She sits on top of her silver stone watching the water fall beneath her feet. Taken in the summer at Alnwick Gardens.
68. Colors of Grace by [Maelthra]
The sun goddess lives here. She controls the sunsets you see each and every day. Sometimes her moods bring about the most glorious sunsets ever seen. This photograph was taken while driving back from a concert in Many, Louisianna.
69. Fallen Waters [Master Fio]
This photo was taken this morning (21st October)In the bush down the end of my street.
Fairys used to live here. I know Ive seen the little houses they left behind. The water used to be clear now it is filled with plastic bags, bottles and a heavy lingering stench. The only living creature around here are blood sucking leeches and maybe a few outcast fairys lurking in the shadows. Even the dragonfly have moved on and those that were left behind are dying slowly. Now let me tell you about how it used to be....
One day while exploring the local bush area I slipped in the mud and needed somewhere to clean my jeans. I followed a rocky trail down to a clearing with a stream at the edge. I followed a path upstream and came across another clearing. I was stunned! it was so very beautiful with the sun shinning down through the branches into the water. I stood there for a moment staring and i could feel the tingle of magic in the air around this place. I sat there for hours watching the fairys dive and swim. Some cheeky little fairys even picked up water in their skirts and dumped it on older fairys sitting amongst the pebbles or fluttering their wet cob-web wings at their friends...I guess i should shut up now since this is a photography contest.
By the way I know i didnt really explain what LIVES in this place but we were also told to be creative :P
70. Don't swim [RoyDante]
When I was little I have been warned not to swim in this river because there's a beast living there who eats children. It's name is "Naekki".

71. Shimmering waters [Rainbowsheep_xX]
07/28/05 ** I took this on my way home from a summer camp, in Portland, Oregon. It's taken from a hotel on the edge of a small lake on the outskirts of town. Since the picture is a bit blurry it looks like it's a watercolour painting, the trees are dancing in the light of the setting sun which reflects on the shimmering waters below. When the sun was fully set i thought I saw the flickering lites of little water sprites dancing to the light of the moon.
72. Sirenum Scopuli [Sue Falkenkralle]
The photo shows Sirenum Scopuli, the small islands where the sirens live. You can see their next victim on the horizon.
-Picture made 07/25/05 in Concarneau in the Bretagne/France.
73. Siren Cliffs [Lullaby]
Upon the rocks the maidens sing,
A harmonious tune, a pleasant ring.
Water thrashes the cliffs they sit upon
Luring men by singing their song.
Seductive voices waft in the air
Murdering men without a care.
These shores are graves where men do lie,
Tis where they ended up to die.
Sansimeon Feb. 2005
74. Lady Muse - [Mockingbird]
Home of the Muse (she's a fluid creature, isn't she?). What dreams look like outside of a head, before they manifest:
Tiles ascending, pinpointing, closing in, a scum sucker, and a surge of bubbles.
Arizona March 2005
75.Hidden sprites[Lakayana]
Below those mangrove roots, are little sprites. you can't see them now because the come out only at night to prey on little insects and small fishes that come out at night. There are not used to light and the prefer the dark that is why the live beneath those roots. In the dark the glow in the like stars. This pix was taken by me specially for this contest on the 20th of october 2005 at Aqua Vista Resort Anantiga In Cross River State Nigeria.
76. Regal Beauty [Lady Edana-Arianrhod Rós]
The Tiger Goddess visits her sacred fountain deep in the jungles of India, hidden in the ruins of an ancient city. Few loyal worshipers still know the location of the sacred land mark. They keep its knowledge close to their hearts, lest she become angry with them and any defilers of her temple and reign vengence upon them.
(Sept. 2005, Tiger Exibit in the Asian Quarter of the Disney Animal Kingdom)
77. lake mist. [Aidan Ryuko]
There is a story saying the water in this tiny lake is alive! water elementals they call it, back in the old days a powerfull wizard fought a huge water elemental, many explosions followed untill he finally beat the water elemental, the left-for-dead water elemental fell into one of the holes created by the explosions and the wizard cast a spell to bind it to that place, but even now.. people are told to not come too close to the water, because it might take your life energy! ever since the day the wizard left they have been putting signs in front of the lake saying "forbidden to come here at night" it makes us wonder.. is it truly to protect nature as they say.. or is it to protect us from nature..
it's a perfect place, it's deep inside a forest, it's dirt covers what the lake is hiding including the many lifes it took throughout the years!
Date: august 2005, Location: forest next to a little village in the netherlands.
78. "lair of the water elemental" [cobi]
it is the a water elemental as he rages out of his water lair.
this was taken 31.10.05 in my toilet...
79. "Poseidon's Throne" [Apus]
Somewhere in the middle of the Mediterranean the God of the Seas sits majestically on his throne, shaped like a giant clam while his guards struggle to keep the excited hippocampi in check.
Taken 19th June 2004 at the Fontana de Trevi, Rome
80. "Here Waits the Maiden, Here Lies the Feast" [Eylan]
There is a light, they say, in even the darkess of ancient woods, that can be seen through the night by soul weary travelers. Enchanted by this mysterious and fantastic light men are drawn inexorable forward, oblivious to all the cold and wet of most dreay shadow into the pool and waiting, welcome arms of their enchanting maiden. Here, these travelers can find rest eternal and true peace at last. So they say.
Taken last week, just off my patio in Virginia Beach.
81. "Resting Waters" [Lunnie]
As little water as there may be, no one may know that maybe, what we would call rocks, are actually the solid carapace or dulled out horns of a being immense in size. Resting deeply and being used as an earthly surface, its crevices filled with gathered water of the rain now creates a small river. Covered with leaves, mud and other small debris that have gathered with the years, trees have grown from its back and members. And thus lives under this little formation of water, a giant creature which none has ever seen or heard of in the past. It rests so deeply it does not notice us. One day will come when it will wake from its slumber, maybe...
Taken in the month of October 2005 in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.
