2009-04-27 [Chimes]: Yeah: My question is... if it means something different to that... what do you mean? :P
2009-04-28 [Lady of Lore]: What I mean is that someone could take a story form here and send it to a publishing company and claim that it is their own. Now if the author has not copyrighted that work to their name, technically the person who sent it to the publisher could make money off of it and the original writer could make nothing.
One easy way, in the U.S., to copyright something is to mail yourself a manuscript and never open it. That way you have a manuscript that is stamped and dated by the federal government (the postage stamp on the envelope that says they delivered it).
Writing is technically copyrighted to you the moment you write it down but to "prove" that it is yours in case someone steals your idea takes some kind of planning or documentation.
2009-04-28 [Lady of Lore]: Sorry if that was lengthy, I've been writing a novel for the passed 10 years so I'm a little protective of my work :P I've looked into copyrighting a little but there may be things I don't know
2009-05-09 [Skydancer]: If your really serious about copyrights and publishing the best thing is to register it with the copyright office, not just do the envelope thing. Then you really are protected and your work is kept as part of the library of congress for future reference in cases of copyright and historical reference.
In the USA of course. :)
2009-05-09 [Skydancer]: I quote the US Copyright Office here.
"Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work."
2009-05-10 [Lady of Lore]: ^_^ I just thought it might be something worth mentioning. It seemed like something that could happen, given how many art thieves there are in the world, it would make sense to have story thieves. :P
2009-05-10 [Lady of Lore]: Thanks Skydancer ^_^
2009-06-05 [Duke Devlin]: Still not enough nominations? :(
2009-06-05 [Linderel]: No, so go dig more!
2009-06-05 [Duke Devlin]: I will do that! >:O
2009-06-06 [Chimes]: Rules say if it's chaptered it doesn't have to be finished, I do believe. :P At least, I remember thinking up that rule anyhow.
2009-06-06 [Chimes]: We need one more nomination to have enough for this to start properly so if you want to nominate a story... do it! We like nominations and we want to start featuring. :)
2009-06-07 [Duke Devlin]: Oooo Ooooo Oooooo!!!! *goes to hunt storehs*
2009-06-07 [Chimes]: Hunt them at all times :P
2009-06-07 [Duke Devlin]: I do. >:) 'Cept now, because I am doing art work, and revision of Pi and Storm. D:

2009-08-09 [Akayume]: Wahhh! I love this idea! :D I will get to nominating stories now. >:O
2009-08-19 [losthero]: Okay revisions have been completed and chapters merged completely there is only one chapter so far and I am working on Chapter II!
A Dream To Remember
2009-08-21 [Duke Devlin]: You need to go to Nominate a Story :P
