2011-11-03 [Tynuka-Rhytishy]: Welcome back. ^-^
2012-09-10 [Nocturnaliss]: Y'know, I was just taking a stroll through the 'Town, and realized it's been forever since I saw any new comments here.
And seems like the two open competitions have been running for nearly a year. Not that I'm complaining, I just find it sad.
I dunno, is it just me being smacked in the face by nostalgia or something ? (I'm thinking yes, but I'd also like to think I'm not alone ;_;)
2012-09-10 [Ramirez]: To be honest, I literally open elftown now out of habit without really doing much with it. I think a majority of the problem why this wiki is dead is entirely my fault. I've just been so busy and mostly disinterested with Elftown as of late. I should probably try to poke some life back into it... but I'm not sure if I have the time.
2012-09-10 [Nocturnaliss]: I understand, I use Elftown that way myself... for me, it remains the only place I can meet like-minded people. I'd honestly not know how you could get life back into this wiki... it can't all come from you. I'm just glad someone replies :)
2012-09-10 [Ramirez]: I hardly have time for social sites anymore lol And I hardly talk to anyone on Elftown. It's really lost its appeal to me over the years... Like I said, I return outta habit.
2012-09-10 [Nocturnaliss]: If it weren't for the social sites, I wouldn't even have any social contacts << except for customers at work, but that's just not the same. Bit sad you ceased to believe in Elftown, but it's also understandable
2012-09-11 [Ramirez]: It does feel frozen in time, but in a bad sort of way. About 95% of the people I "grew up with" on Elftown have disappeared suddenly or willingly gave up the site. And I haven't really made much an effort to find new people to talk with. And it seems like a lot of the new members don't care much for art and writing but find this to be more a chat or dating site. Which is irritating... but I also acknowledge that I am bias because I haven't really explored it much as of late.
2012-09-11 [Nocturnaliss]: I've never really explored it at all, ever, hence why I have a list of exactly 8 relations XD I remember leaving for a couple of years as well, several years ago, because ET seemed like, as you say, a chat/dating site. Returned eventually for I dunno what reason anymore, and this time I stuck around. There's still people worth interacting with, even if they can't replace the people you knew. Times change, ET doesn't. Don't think it ever will. Yet, I tend to have more meaningful conversations here, than anywhere else. But, again, that's just me XD
2012-09-12 [Mortified Penguin]: Have you ever considered branching out to members of the community that you may have overlooked the last few years? Or wikis you may have disregarded? When was the last time you thought, "Hey, I should talk to [Mortified Penguin] and get to know him!" or "I should give Mort money and naked pictures of myself!"? Only a few times this week, that's when. Of course Elftown will seem dead to you if you keep staring at its corpse. But try flipping it over and you'll find that it's still teeming with life. The seedy underbelly of what you would consider a dead website is thriving, you just need to reach out, scoop up a handful of maggots, and talk to them. And maybe eat a few.
2012-10-15 [Stephen]: Mort, sometimes you make me cringe. xD
2012-10-15 [XxTsomexX]: XD That was a beautiful paragraph. Disturbing, but inspiring.
2012-10-16 [Stephen]: Although, actually, since this is a niche community that can actually make it more difficult to get to know people. I won't class language barriers, since most members of Hedda's sites do know English, but it tends to be difficult to strike up (lasting) conversation with strangers.
Of course, that applies to pretty much all aspects of life; strangers tend to think you're weird if you just start talking to them out of the blue, unless it's about a point and at which point once the point ends thus does the conversation.
Unless, of course, you're a ramen eating penguin who takes strange pleasure into harassing strangers into friendship.
2012-10-16 [XxTsomexX]: It's very true. Even in real life, talking to strangers can be nerve wracking. I have this unfortunate habit of saying all thoughts out loud, and they spew out of my mouth like word vomit. It only gets worse when I'm anxious or nervous.
2012-10-16 [Stephen]: That'd be interesting.
I suppose it would also count as a conversation ice breaker, even if it's not really in the form you'd choose it to be.
I do wish it was easier to talk to people here though. For a community of like minded individuals (mostly..) it's strangely difficult to really make a lasting conversation with someone.
2012-10-16 [XxTsomexX]: It is. I get messages every now and then, people saying hi and shenanigans like that. I like to type out answers, but I have come to find that it scares people into silence. Either that, or my word vomit scared them off.
2012-10-16 [Stephen]: Word vomit sounds colorful.
I love talking to people, but I tend to chat away happily when I'm free, however then I get busy or involved in things and have to stop responding (on Elfpack I have some messages 100+ days old ) then I feel bad for ignoring people.
2012-10-16 [XxTsomexX]: I try not to ignore people. Even if I can't find something to say, I find a witty or just scary looking photo and send it to them.
2012-10-16 [Stephen]: Jesus Silvie! x)
At that point you're better off just deleting it, unless it's there for some sentimental reason. I'd have a total "wth" moment if I got a message that was a response to something I'd sent four years ago.
If I can't think of a response, I try to at least send a smile face or something else, so I'm not completely ignoring someone. Unless it's the obvious end of a conversation, anyway.
@Silvie: There's days I just decide I'm going to sit down and spend my normal Elfpack productivity time answering messages. The downside tends to be people then respond to your response, and you don't really make any progress.
2012-10-16 [Stephen]: rotfl.
What a great outlook, lolol. Well, if I've ever sent you a message within the last four years without a response, now I can wonder if it's in your massive buildup of message. *chuckles*
2024-03-30 [Joe!]: I still believe :)
2024-12-08 [Hedda]: Dragons are real! Joe Rogan said so, long after the fact I proved it.
