What is Writersco?
Writersco is a community built around the love of writing. Whether your discipline is plays or poetry, novels or essays: Writersco has a little something for everyone. There are regular contests on all kinds of themes to test your skills and wit. Writersco is also fitted with a simple and effective system to showcase your works.

Why should I join as a writer/reader/roleplayer/agent?
As a writer you can have other writers go through your work, helping you grow, learn and find an agent. As a reader you can scout your new favourite authors and become personal friends with them. Roleplayers have complete control over their own adventures and can find some idea here that normally wouldn't be thought of. Agents can find prospective new blood in the writing world.

What else does Writersco offer?
Writersco has a lot of features, many of them the same as Elftown. As well as those you're familiar with, Writersco has a new system for uploading writings.
Writersco is set up so members can upload work to the Writings Area, a place specifically for original writings to be displayed. Each member gets a Writing Area and complete control over it: there they can put up poems, short stories or even novels.
The wiki pages are still there so you can create contests or information pages. Fan-Fiction is only allowed on wiki pages with proper copyright notices.

Writersco also allows users the option to Rate the writings so members (and non-members if the author allows it) can give their opinions

I have unanswered questions!
Please comment below or message one of the contacts, we'll be more than happy to help.

How do I join?

2005-04-07 [Ittai]: You may call this page the "Writersco Ambessy" :)

2005-04-07 [Paul Doyle]: Are there any specific requirements? (such as having work on a gallery, or having commercially published work?) I am registering the copyright of my first novel, (unpublished, so far) and I have a Wyvern's Library page which will lose some data once Elfwood is running again.

2005-04-07 [font]: If you write, like writing, and want to further your writing skills or experiences, then it may be a place for you.

2005-04-07 [Paul Doyle]: Really? Sounds intriguing :)

2005-04-09 [-Shadow-Nell-]: Oooh. O.O this looks very interesting! I shall return later.

2005-04-09 [Phoxx]: timing couldn't have been better. I finally started writing my first book this week, and now I find this wiki :D I'm very interested indeed

2005-04-09 [chelekat]: I've been looking for something like this for ages. :D

2005-04-10 [Mia the mermaid22]: I want to jion the concest for my stories.

2005-04-10 [Kaimee]: the contest is for making an image sorry, not for stories. But if you join, theres plenty of opportunities to show your stories, and even improve on them! :)

2005-04-12 [Mia the mermaid22]: Kaimee: I would like an invite and how do I improve my stories.

2005-04-12 [~AzureSkyy.-]: ^_^ You improve your writing by writing more and getting suggestions from others. =b

2005-04-13 [Kaimee]: Mermaid: you have to message your email address to me so that I can send you an invite :)

2005-04-13 [Mia the mermaid22]: A life of a mermaid

2005-04-13 [Phoxx]: No send you email-adress to [Kaimee] or [font] Mermaid!

2005-04-13 [~AzureSkyy.-]: *chuckles*

2005-04-13 [Phoxx]: Ok sorry, that sounded a bit harsh, but this is not the community. You can let others read your writings when you get there. (though its's sadly offline now... :'(

2005-04-13 [~AzureSkyy.-]: =T Yeah, I noticed. I tried like, 8 times to get on it during Civics class today ... xD ... Elfpack's down, too, I noticed.

2005-04-13 [Phoxx]: yeah really not cool! Ah well, I need to study anyway, it would only keep me from my work...

2005-04-13 [Mia the mermaid22]: Font: Do you want my email address?

2005-04-13 [~AzureSkyy.-]: Yeah, just ElfMail it to him.

2005-04-13 [Phoxx]: haha ElfMail, that's the coolest word you could use for it :P

2005-04-13 [~AzureSkyy.-]: ^_^ Well, that's what it is, no? x3 ^.~

2005-04-13 [Mia the mermaid22]: My email is at my house if Font and Kaimee want to email me.

2005-04-14 [font]: Thanks got your email, you should get an invite as soon as Hedda sorts out his network problem

2005-04-14 [Kaimee]: Dont worry about it font, shes been msging me all week, Iv got her covered ;)

2005-04-14 [~AzureSkyy.-]: Teehee, a bit excited, are we, Mermaid? =b

2005-04-15 [Phoxx]: grr, Elfpack is back online, but WritersCo still isn't :'(

2005-04-15 [Erestor]: I know. :,(

2005-04-15 [font]: Heh it was up, I just forgot to redirect to the new ip

2005-04-15 [~AzureSkyy.-]: Mmmk, it's back. =b

2005-04-15 [Phoxx]: yeah I noticed :)

2005-04-15 [~AzureSkyy.-]: ^.~

2005-04-15 [~AzureSkyy.-]: ... How do you delete a Writing?

2005-04-15 [Phoxx]: I have no idea, can't even upload one :P

2005-04-15 [~AzureSkyy.-]: xD ... Wunnerful.

2005-04-15 [font]: You can't delete a writing... yet. [Phoxx] there is a help file for uploading writing in the help wiki

2005-04-16 [~AzureSkyy.-]: Well, it'd be nice, hehe, I messed up with them and ended up creating more in my efforts to delete them. >_<;;;

2005-04-16 [Kaimee]: dont worry, I think weve all done it :P The superwikis sure will take alot of getting used to... :P

2005-04-16 [Phoxx]: Thanx [font], I saw that. But I'm not ready to upload anything yet. My story is just starting to exist :)

2005-06-04 [Ocean Dreaming]: Beg your pardon.

2005-06-06 [Hedda]: There was no link to www.writersco.com here, so I added one! It's needed for people who want to read your stories, but not become members.

2005-06-06 [~AzureSkyy.-]: Erm ... I forgot my WritersCo Username ... >_>; I was member 29 (?), and had posted some poetry and things that can also be found on my Elftown account, so if anyone could check that for me that'd be .. Really nice. -.-;

2005-06-06 [font]: [`Wicked. Eloquence.~]

2005-06-06 [Barrassg]: font

2005-06-08 [Mia the mermaid22]: I am writing my stories..

2005-06-09 [SeLoCeS]: Hey matey i will be free and interested in helping out for small Writersco Ezine if you need me, just send me a message at my home if you want my skills my friends

2005-06-11 [~AzureSkyy.-]: Thanks.

2005-06-13 [Noxme]: lave to write...ok well maybe not now...lol!

2005-06-13 [~AzureSkyy.-]: Heh .. well, ask [font] for the URL then and join up. -.~

2005-06-15 [..Gone..]: This looks cool...

2005-06-17 [chuchutrain]: can I give you two emails to invite two people to writersco.?

2005-06-17 [font]: why cant that other person ask themselves...?

2005-06-17 [chuchutrain]: I was just wondering that's all...

2005-06-17 [font]: you can get an invite, then get privs there so that you can invite people

2005-06-18 [..Gone..]: How good a writer do you have to be to join?

2005-06-18 [~AzureSkyy.-]: Just be interested, there is no YOU MUST BE THIS SKILLED cutoff.

2005-06-18 [..Gone..]: Cool :)

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: I have a question... I was wondering if, when you join writersco, you can make it so that only members can view your stories/poems. is that possible?

2005-06-19 [Erestor]: I don't think it is yet, although you'll have to ask [font] for a defienent answer.

2005-06-19 [ArchangelGabriel]: I think it can be done... Orr you can make it so only a private forum can see them.

2005-06-19 [Erestor]: However that means that you won't get many comments as only some people will know about.

2005-06-19 [font]: Why want to be a writer in a community if you dont want to share your writing? If you want to keep it to yourself write it on paper and lock it away. ;)

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: Well I want to share it with the trusted members of writersco, but I dont want it all over the internet. After reading about all the different kinds of theafts that have happened I'm not sure I want my stuff to be able to be accessed by everyone...

2005-06-19 [font]: Then you would never want to be published? Post or email yourself a dated copy of your work and dont open it, that will be your prove of copyright.

2005-06-19 [ArchangelGabriel]: You can't prove it lkike that though. Yoiu can always unread an email and in some cases redate it... Shouldn't a copy be sent to some body or another? I'm sure theres some where were they validate copyright

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: Published is different. Once published it's copyrighted. No chance of my stuff being stolen without proof that it was and severe consequences.

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: Thing is, most of my stuff isnt finished... so even if it's not, would the mailing copyright still work on an unfinished copy of a story?

2005-06-19 [Ocean Dreaming]: Just slightly wrong, [Kelaria]. Once you've written something it's copyrighted. Doesn't matter whether you publish it or not - you have copyright. The only way you'll keep your work absolutely safe is by never ever publishing it anywhere. Proving you do own the copyright to literary works is difficult. Try reading this page http://www.sfwa.org/beware/copyright.html#Myths before using the poor man's copyright.

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: Proof of copyright is what I'm worried about.... *goes to the link*

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: So really, there's nothing I can do. If someone else takes my work and claims it as theirs (with the copyright symbol) all I can do is HOPE that people believe me?

2005-06-19 [Erestor]: Alt + 696 on windows. © use it and hope.

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: *cries and clings to her precious stories*

2005-06-19 [ArchangelGabriel]: I'm still sure there must be body where you can get coies catalouged incase. I must say i'm curious to see some of your work. It must be very good for you to guard it so jelausly(sp) ^^

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: jealously*

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: and it's not that it's good (I guess you can be the judge of that) It's that my work is part of my soul. Everything I write comes from deep inside me and ends up having a life of its own...

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: it would really hurt for someone else to get credit for my work...

2005-06-19 [font]: You have stories uploaded on EW... and anyone can read those, so what is the difference if you upload them to WritersCo

2005-06-19 [Kelaria]: I would take them off of ET

2005-06-19 [..Gone..]: I have a question. Do you have to have a certain amount of your writinsg done?

2005-06-19 [ArchangelGabriel]: Theres nopoint getitng an account if you've done nothing... Although saying that i have yet to upload much. I'm still working on my stuff...

2005-06-19 [font]: You can become a member and upload one piece of writing, then more later... You can upload writing that you are still writing and mark it as Work In Progress.

2005-06-19 [..Gone..]: Because I only have bits and pieces and chapters...

2005-06-19 [font]: Well you could always upload those and ask for opinions or seek advice in the forums

2005-06-19 [..Gone..]: So basically anyone who has even just a little writings can join?

2005-06-19 [font]: exactly

2005-06-20 [Doormat]: Does poetry count?

2005-06-20 [pixish]: yes :-)

2005-06-26 [Kirikale]: Pertaining to the copyright discussion above, have you ever heard of the poor man's copyright system? Its a cheap way to be able to prove a story or other work is truly yours without paying money for the government to do it. Just print a copy of your work, put it in an envelope, and mail it back to yourself. When you get it, don't open it. The postmark is proof that you wrote it before that time. The optimal time to do this would be before you have put any of it online or showed people, to make sure that nobody can dispute your claim to copyright by saying it was their idea after reading it. Um... did that make sense?

2005-06-26 [Kelaria]: yeah we already talked about that...

2005-06-26 [Kirikale]: Ah, my bad- I didn't see that up there. >_< Don't I feel like an ass now.

2005-06-26 [Kelaria]: aww! you shouldnt! I dont read all the earlier comments sometimes :P

2005-06-26 [Phoxx]: see the URL above, poor man's copyright turns out to be not as effective as thought. It's not proof in court anyway, cause you can mail yourself an empty envelope and put the writing in afterwards and seal it. By the way, what are Berne countries? Cause the copyright rules above are for Berne countries only, and I'm not sure I'm in one...

2005-06-27 [ArchangelGabriel]: Ther berne convention certainly covers most MEDCs, so europe, north america, australia... Intrestingly copyright rules are that 'the book cannot be sold, traded or lent in any binding other than the one in which it was published.' which means it is illegal to sell a book without its cover. Intresting eh?

2005-06-27 [ArchangelGabriel]: Ah, here is a list of countries under the burne convention: http://www.wipo.int/treaties/en/ShowResults.jsp?lang=en&treaty_id=15 . Apparently there are 159 out of a possible (depending on the source) either 189, 191, or 192 countries (possibly even 266: http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20010105.html - take your pick) who are in it

2005-06-27 [font]: A book can't be sold without a cover as this means the publisher or writer will not earn royalties from the sale.

2005-06-27 [pixish]: oooh! Fun Facts!

2005-06-28 [Phoxx]: wow thanx for all digging into it for me! :)

2005-06-28 [ArchangelGabriel]: Ahh.. But Font, if i where to lend a book to a friend, the author gets no royalties for that but it would still be against that law if the cover were damaged... No prob phoxx, i have to much time on my hands ^_^

2005-06-29 [font]: No as you are not illegally selling the book, only lending, It only applies if money is transfered between two parties.

2005-07-18 [Kaimee]: Anyone who contacted me about working on the Writersco ezine should contact either [font] or [pixish] for confirmation on what is happening with that project.

2005-07-18 [font]: Better still if you are interested and so you can gain a faster reply, read The WritersCo Ezine. If you have any questions you can email us :)

2005-08-09 [forsakenangels]: where do i join? O.o and ello! <waves>

2005-08-10 [font]: http://www.writersco.com/_contact Or read the last part of this wiki.

2005-08-10 [forsakenangels]: ahhh ok then ill do that now.. thanksies

2005-10-26 [pixish]: Put the wee banner in your house or diary to promote WritersCo if you wish *^_^*

2005-11-16 [-Shadow-Nell-]: Hello everyone! It was suggested to me that the writers here might be interested in the Judges for Hire page. If people either interested in judging or need judges for their writing contests, this is a pretty good place to go.

2005-12-03 [~*Luna*~]: Wow. I like this place very much. I can tell and show my writings in this place. Wonderful.

2005-12-31 [single and hatin it]: u guys write to much

2006-01-02 [Kaimee]: You breathe too much *^_^*

2006-01-04 [Tigers and Trees]: Tsk, tsk, Cutie.

2006-01-12 [Kai Crewger]: hmm... interesting...

2006-01-21 [pixish]: Should we put a link to the blog [font]?

2006-01-21 [font]: yes :P

2006-05-13 [Kiddalee]: Buying a second hand book that the cover has fallen off of is illegal. Oh no.

2006-05-22 [Elmiira]: I sent an application to Writersco with this same name, but I'm in a class now, so I did not have time to write about me more.. so I hope it will get through because I meant to copy the things from elftown there immediately if I got in.. :S

2006-05-22 [font]: oops - you may get a rejection email along with an acceptance, I read this post after I did the WC applications.

2006-06-12 [ArchangelGabriel]: Is it just me or is writersco not working?

2006-06-12 [font]: It should be up again shortly - I just had to redirect the doamin to a new ip

2006-11-06 [crowdel]: short story duelists is here i implore every writer to join

2008-09-16 [Valient Tragedies]: Fixed up :)

2009-07-01 [pixish]: this page is out of date in regards to information

2009-07-01 [iippo]: Update it then *pokes* :P

2009-07-01 [pixish]: I have no idea about what is going on at writersco now :P It looks totally different and you can't log in with your old username and password

2009-07-01 [Artsieladie]: From Eleanor Gang on Facebook:

New Website!
To members of WritersCo on Facebook

WritersCo has a brand, spanking new website, thanks to Alan Lawson (font) and his unnamed brother (the IT guy). The old site has been shut down. If you didn't get your writings off there, Alan is working on getting a link from Hedda. I wasn't able to offload some of my stuff, and I wouldn't mind accessing it as well.

The new website has the same url as the old, http://www.writersco.com

You will have to rejoin, so please head on over there and log in.

Thanks muchly,

Eleanor

I became the 10th member on the new site, but I think I made a mistake and mistyped my email, because I didn't get one when you sign up. I've emailed Alan about it, but I'm hoping his email hasn't changed. I, too, need to get my stuff. :P

2009-07-01 [Kaimee]: A headsup would have been nice :P I was participating in contests damnit! :P

2009-07-01 [Linderel]: Yes, a heads-up would indeed have been nice. While most of my stuff there was already in other places as well, that was not the case with some of my contest entries. >_<

2009-07-01 [Kaimee]: Yeah, I have no other copy of them either. Oh well, Alan is theoretically working on getting a link or some such from Hedda, hopefully that works out ok? I'm still cranky about those contests :P

2009-07-01 [Changer]: Hopefully is right. There goes my stuff as well^-^

2009-07-01 [windowframe]: www.writersco.heddate.com is where the old site now is, and all your old writing is still accessible there.

2009-07-02 [Linderel]: This is all just a big WTF, oi.

2009-07-02 [font]: Hey everyone. I tried to give as much notice as possible to everyone on The writersCo community by shoutbox, wikis, news posts and the alarm. Sadly it wasn't enough time for everyone, so I apologise for that. I had asked Hedda on MSN to link another one of my domains to the location where writersco was saved on the Linkmeet domain - but he ignored that. Sorry.

2009-12-18 [Kaimee]: Hiya guys, just a heads up, I didn't realise that www.writersco.heddate.com was still up and functioning just as it used to, so some of you may not have known either! :)
It's the same old heddate style site, your writings are all still there (and will remain there, no time limit) although the site is now not being run as it used to.
As all the crew have shifted over to the 'new' writersco, writersco.heddate wont have people running the old featured writings, official contests, etc etc. It also doesn't currently have active mods.
Feel free to continue using it if you want though, I kinda like the old heddate one and I can't be bothered migrating all my writing, so I think I'll just stick around there.

2010-08-15 [Kiddalee]: Both communities have become very little. Maybe we can come here without being lost in the visual art.

2010-08-16 [Kaimee]: Hmm? What do you mean? :)

2010-08-17 [Kiddalee]: Maybe old-Writersco users should just create a wiki section in Elftown and hang around Elftown's writing forum. Elftown is no longer so crowded that we'll be ignored. Though I don't think we should retain the name "Writersco" if we do come here.

2010-08-17 [Linderel]: Writers do have more of a foothold already, I'd say. For example, Featured Story has been established. We don't need our own section. Why make an unnecessary separation?

2010-08-18 [Kaimee]: Precisely :) If people want to keep using the Writings upload sections on Writersco.. great! Maybe someday it'll be more active again. Otherwise, as [Linderel] said, there are already plenty of writers here on Elftown, and there are already some great places for them to get their work out there :)
