Renderosity is a good place to go for ideas on picture lay-outs, although I use that less than general web-browsing.
Google tends to throw out pictures and ideas more often than anything else, however.

Unlike other artists, I don't mind if someone takes my work. I do what I do because I enjoy the end result, and if other people enjoy it as well, then more power to them. 

I sorta figure that the minute I put a picture up on the internet, it's no longer mine. Anyone who really wants it will take it whether I want them to or not. So I don't get pissy about that sort of thing.

2008-11-19 [Neimo]: Most of the brushes that I have were given to me by a friend on a CD back about 4 years ago. Others, I've downloaded from the 'net since then. I don't know or remember where they came from specifically. 

As for the picture, [Perplexity], I didn't draw the pictures. They were stock. I don't remember where I got them from. I never knew that I'd have to account for every picture I used. Just as I never expected to actually try my hand at any contest. This has been the first one I've ever added a picture to. 
But if you have an issue with my submission then just take it down. I never figured anyone would have a problem with it, but I'm not going to sit here and defend my work just because I can't remember where the raw art came from. 
I don't want to be ignorant about it. I do know that I didn't steal the picture or the raw art it took to create the image. I have the computer that I used to create the image on, but it would be a pain in the neck to tear the computer I'm using now down, hook up my old computer, upload the PSD image, tear down my old computer and re-connect my current computer. Just...no. 
So, as I said, if you have a problem with the picture because I don't have sources for it, then take it down.

2008-11-19 [Yuriona]: Taking stock images and using them without permission or giving proper credit to those who created the stock images could be construed as theft. If that is the case, I'm not sure you can display the image on your Elftown house but it is fine to display in a wiki of your work. If you truly did not know that you would have to account for every picture you used, then I suggest reading the uploading art rules before displaying any more of your artwork on your house.

As for the contest, whether your work is acceptable or not is really up to the contest owner and you will have to wait for her decision on the matter.

Well, it was a really cool picture and I'll bet a dollar it would have won the contest! Next time you put some effort into a pic, note the sources so you can participate in contests and be a part of Elftown. ET needs art to survive, and we all gotta feed the beast! =)
I hope this has not discouraged you from entering contests or posting new work.  Please understand that the majority of artists feel very protective of their work and want credit where credit is due. You are actually the first person I have met that has a laissez-faire attitude towards this!

[deeterhi], as usual, yours was among the artwork that caught my eye (I said "among", I don't have time to name all of the pieces/artists here I like, and a recitation of most of the entrants would probably get boring, and be the only way to be accurate... LOL), but not for the usual reason this time.

I'm not sure why, but when I spotted that unicorn of yours, the first thought in my head was "I want to see a Tarot deck done in that style" -- and the reason I'm not sure why is that it's not about it being Tarot cards, because this piece isn't classic Tarot imagery. I think it's something about the way this piece kind of grabs me by the intuitive part of my artistic response circuit, if that makes any sense. I could see this kind of image as being very easy to respond to on an emotional level, a pre-intellectual level.

Huh. For a response that was so strong, I guess it's hard to articulate in a way that would make any sense to anyone else. LOL Still, worth a try, I guess. Whenever anyone's art affects me that much, I tend to want to try to reflect that back to them -- just as I would want to know if something I created had that kind of impact on a viewer. :D
