2006-08-01 [travs the bean]: i would like to see something like this for writers as well- maybe have trials that deal with different types of poems, dialogue and short stories- it wuold help with graphics but we need someone to establish it and set up - the final trial is a published piece.....
2006-08-01 [iippo]: I was thinking the same thing - as well as one for photographers. But then again, a writers' Darkarrow might have more luck in WritersCo...?
2006-08-01 [travs the bean]: what wiki is that lippo
2006-08-01 [Yuriona]: It isn't a wiki. Its another site like Elfpack, Elf12, Fake and MusMakers. *shrugs*
2006-08-01 [travs the bean]: ohhhh i see:)
2006-08-01 [iippo]: But now that I think of it, WritersCo tends to steal most writers and writerly activities from ET itself, so a Darkarrow for writers here in ET might do more good. :)
2006-08-01 [travs the bean]: well the goal is to keep peole here to help keep the magic alive- i just won't have the time to run it
2006-08-01 [Yuriona]: I agree. Plus I have heard some unsubstantiate
2006-08-01 [iippo]: I'd be very interested in such a wiki too, but you'd need someone, well, like you travs to run it. Someone with enough background in writing and publishing and such.
2006-08-01 [travs the bean]: well let's see how well this works and we'll start the same program for the writers and the photographers:)
2006-08-01 [Yuriona]: I've been writing since I was in grade school and have lots of experience in the different aspects of writing but I'm not published. *sighs*
2006-08-01 [iippo]: I loved the writing courses in school, we had such awesome writing excercises... It'd be awesome to have that stuff in ET too. :)
2006-08-01 [travs the bean]: well maybe not published but there would need to be some big achievment to make one a master-
2006-08-01 [Yuriona]: Oh... that wouldn't be me then. The most I've accomplished is having articles I wrote published in a local newspaper. *shrugs* Oh and my college creative writing professor kept a copy of a short story I wrote to show her boss to prove the course was viable but that's it.
2006-08-01 [travs the bean]: see your published:) don't undermine yourself- you had work that can be found in print- regaurdless how small you have something-
2006-08-01 [Yuriona]: OH... ^^' Sorry, my husband is always telling me the same thing actually. I'm horrible for being self-defeatist according to him.
2006-08-01 [travs the bean]: your husband is a good man
2006-08-01 [Yuriona]: He is. :)
2006-08-01 [Elisha Kelly]: *pokes [Yuriona]* be positive... as I always tell my daughter... if you think you can't than you never will...
2006-08-01 [Yuriona]: I'm workin on it! I'm workin' on it! XD
2006-08-01 [Elisha Kelly]: :P
2006-08-01 [kay-chan]: Hee, I have a comic published in my college newspaper... XD I think it's hilarious cuz I'm a bio major and one of the only college students drawing comics for the paper. Woot!
2006-08-04 [travs the bean]: all knights that are teaching need to read this darkarrow: critiques
2006-08-04 [travs the bean]:
2006-08-04 [Jitter]: I'll start my first trial soon :)
2006-08-04 [travs the bean]: gotta sign up and read the whole thing first
2006-08-04 [Jitter]: yep I'll do that :)
2006-08-04 [mondo86em]: I'm still debating joining I'm sloooooooooooo
2006-08-04 [travs the bean]: well mondo- speed is not an issue right now- everyone works at their own pace once they are chosen by a knight. there are some that make it to knighthood quickly while there are others who are quite content to take thier time.
2006-08-05 [mondo86em]: Sounds good I've been looking around and the trials and tutoring seem VERY helpful. So as soon as I can get uploading priv's and a page up I'm in.
2006-08-08 [Jitter]: Read everything, signed and waiting now :)
2006-08-08 [Elisha Kelly]: *ish watching [Jitter]* :P
2006-08-08 [Lothuriel]: I read it but, I always have trouble when someone critiques the overall theme or one element of my art rather than on the quality of the technique. In other words, if I can do better with shading or proportions, by all means tell me. But, please don't bother telling me that my fairy couldn't fly with such small wings or that a mermaid's tail shouldn't be jointed. I can't used tutorials. I never have been able to do that. I think it is the dyscalculia, who knows. I don't know exactly where I am going with this. I suppose my point is to remind others that when you critique someone's work to always remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't critique their imagination, critique their skill...hope that made sense.
2006-08-08 [Elisha Kelly]: yes it did :}... and since I am your critiquer I will take that into account XD...
2006-08-08 [Lothuriel]: 00 Hehe...I just felt the need to get that off my chest. If I suck, please be brutal!! I just got through reading comments on my Elfwood gallery like, *clears throat*"you kinda suck, her body is off", "that lightsaber is too short, lightsabers should be....", and this was my favorite, "I don't think mermaids have ears and their tails aren't jointed, you should take that into consideration when drawing them"
2006-08-08 [Stray Kitty]: My biggest problem with Elfwood comments is that no one critiques it. I get loads of "that looks nice" and "I want your patience".
2006-08-08 [Elisha Kelly]: lol... that'swhen you give them the old one fingered salute :P... only joking XD. I must admit that I have never had a comment like that... :D I'll be hard but fair :D
2006-08-08 [Lothuriel]: =0]....
2006-08-08 [Stray Kitty]: Okay. Granted the picture with the patience comments was done in MS Paint. I did spend 3 hours on it. And my math teacher wondered about the quality of my homework.
2006-08-08 [Elisha Kelly]: lol....
2006-08-08 [travs the bean]: i no longer use elfwood-
2006-08-08 [Elisha Kelly]: me neither :P but there is an australian fantasy community that I might eventually join... one day XD
2006-08-08 [Jitter]: Yeah I also ditched Elfwood for DA. Thanks Elys for watching ^_^
2006-08-08 [Elisha Kelly]: tee hee... you so know that I lubs you :P
2006-08-08 [iippo]: *is afraid of DA's fine print in the Terms of Service*
2006-08-08 [Jitter]: Why do they have big teeth? :p
2006-08-08 [iippo]: I don't understand all the legal temrs, but it seems to say they or third parties have the right to do derivative works of all work uploaded there, and other fishy bits and parts in the text that I didn't like... Have a read of the terms of service. I'm not the only one who avoids DA because of that policy, either.
2006-08-08 [Jitter]: well until I'm well known and have my own website I have to nresort to third parties >.<
2006-08-08 [iippo]: Without getting credit for it?
2006-08-08 [Jitter]: Well if they can remove the ugly watermarks from my art they're welcome to use it, cause they will have earned my eternal respect for bothering to edit that out ;p I tend to use complicate stuff to watermark ;p
2006-08-08 [shotokan_gal]: Don't know about anyone else, but I tend to get quite a lot of cc on my elfwood pics, when I get comments (which hasn't been lately so much, but that's my fault as haven't updated or commented for a while). Not all the comments sure, but enough that they've been often helpful and pointed out things I'd never have noticed. Maybe it's because on a few pieces I specifically ask for it in the description, I don't know.
2006-08-08 [travs the bean]: I find DA very usefull- especailly for the contacts alone- Like everywhere you need to be careful about posting work- that is the problem with the internet0 but if your not selling anyways than you have nothing to loose.
The problem i found from elfwood was the talent level dropped- and you had to wait at times almost 3 to 4 weeks to upload art - which when your looking at constructive feedback you want it now. the other reason why i like DA and the elftown. Most of the people i signed up with at elfwood are gone for the same reason and they are some incredible illustrators.
2006-08-08 [iippo]: (Just realised that both Darkarrow and deviantArt are DAs :P)
2006-08-08 [travs the bean]: :) actually i was talking about deviant- but now that you look at it yeah da...da...:)
2006-08-08 [Jitter]: :) *stalks travs on DA*
2006-08-08 [Yuriona]: :) *stalks travs on DA too*
2006-08-08 [travs the bean]: gotta find me:)
2006-08-08 [Yuriona]: LOL!
2006-08-08 [Igorina]: Aw *sad face* travis you always get all the good stalkers :(
...Wait a minute what the crap am I saying? O_o
2006-08-08 [Jitter]: Easy, you have your link on your little house ^_^
2006-08-08 [travs the bean]: i would like you all to know - [Igorina] helped write the book we published "tales of the brokenmoon" she needs a few stalkers as well
2006-08-08 [Yuriona]: Stalkers hmmm? That could be arranged... *starts stalking [Igorina]* Muahahahahaaaa
2006-08-08 [Jitter]: /stalks
2006-08-09 [TheRogue]: *stalks Igorina from behind a way too small house plant* >:D
2006-08-09 [Elisha Kelly]: *pounces [Igorina]* lotsa lubs...
2006-08-09 [Lothuriel]: o0 ummm...yeah. Anyhow...*back
2006-08-09 [Igorina]: O.O!! *sweatdrop* omg er gee I feel so in fear of my lif...I mean er flattered...
2006-08-09 [travs the bean]: lol- just trying to get people to see the broken moon tales where a two person job:)
2006-08-09 [Yuriona]: *grins* Some of the best stories are. I know all of the stories I'm writing at the moment were in fact co-written by my husband and all of them old RPGs he GMed me through. :)
2006-08-09 [Igorina]: Collaborative writing is always fun...I have a ton of stories I have written with my friend [LoReilly]..sweet, sweet braincrack :D
2006-08-10 [Yuriona]: Oooohh yeah... *is addicted too*
2006-08-10 [Evilmonk]: Plex writes like a champ, but never finishes anything. I have been wanting to illustrate some of her tales for quite sometime, but don't want to push her. (hint hint babe! *wink*) =)
2006-08-10 [Yuriona]: I think I have two storylines finished and tons of writing and editing to do. I just don't have the time to do it. :(
2006-08-10 [Elisha Kelly]: whenever I start writing, they somehow go from witten words, to insane little sketches all over the page...
2006-08-12 [Lothuriel]: I have a 5000 page novel that has been lying around my house for 2 years now...I keep changing it and revising it....can't make up my mind for anything.
2006-08-12 [Yuriona]: I write everything in point form then go back and flesh it out later. Then I'll edit and redit and redit once more before I'm satisfied enough with it to post it. Needless to say, I don't get a lot done. :/
2006-08-12 [Lothuriel]: *sighs* My problem is finding the time. Hopefully that will all change soon.
2006-08-16 [Azuri]: *pops head in* Hi there everyone I was looking about and found this page. Ive seen the badges before but never knew what they ment because I never went to the page. I really like this idea and have been recently trying to improve my art(expecially using my graphics tablet so I can get the hang of it). I want to join but Im not exactly clear on how to do this, I know I would need to make a wiki but beyond that Im a little confused. I havent really a clue what I would put on it, if someone could clear this up for me that would be much appreciated.^_

2006-08-16 [Azuri]: What exactly do I put in backstory and do I need to add pictures to it?
2006-08-16 [Jitter]: If you like see mine for example Dark Arrow: jitterbug perfume
2006-08-17 [Azuri]: Lol thanks^_^ how do you make the pictures clickable?
2006-08-17 [Perplexity]: < img 200 : httpwhatever >
without the spaces of course. You don't have to use 200, you can make it whatever number you want, the smaller the number, the smaller the image, the bigger the number, the bigger the image.
2006-08-17 [Azuri]: Ahhh I see! Thanks, I never knew that before and i was always wondered^_^
2006-08-17 [Charybdis]: Check out image and pseudo html for other ways to grow, shrink, stretch and skew your pictures :P
2006-08-17 [Kememmótar]: This looks interesting... How long has this wiki been here?
2006-08-17 [Azuri]: For awhile now Im guess, I think Ive been seeing the badges for a few months now.
2006-08-17 [Kememmótar]: Ive been here a few years and have just eard of it.. This could be the help ive been wanting....
2006-08-17 [Azuri]: Same here Ive been hanging around elftown for almost 4 years now. I think this is a great idea(which is why i added my page hehe) and could be really helpful
2006-08-17 [iippo]: The first page version of this wiki is in 2005, so it's been around for quite a while already :)
2006-08-17 [Azuri]: Wow *is surprised she didnt come here sooner*
2006-08-17 [Yuriona]: I've only been here at DarkArrow for a bit more than a month and I've already found a drastic improvement in my art! Now if I could just find the time to finish that trial... :/
2006-08-17 [Azuri]: ^^ thats good. Its easier to improve your art when you have people giving you honest crits
2006-08-17 [Jitter]: Yeah indeed :)
2006-08-17 [Azuri]: I like this wiki already <3 it centered around giving honest crits when usually all you get outa someplace like elfwood and deviantart are "Ohh that cool/pretty" which dont get me wrong are nice but arnt going to help improve
2006-08-17 [Perplexity]: Absolutely, I agree, Azuri.
2006-08-17 [Mom]: That reminds me,back to the old drawing board.Characte
2006-08-17 [~Saraneth~]: Now if you join here and want to become better at you trade, is it expected that you know how to color and ink on the computer? I am thinking about getting some help here but I've never personally worked with computer programs on my art before. I noticed becoming a proficient computer colorist is a trial but I can only color by hand and ink by hand. =(
2006-08-17 [travs the bean]: coloring and inking by hand are fine there are levels for that as well
2006-08-17 [~Saraneth~]: Yay, that's good news! Also, another question I had. When you are working with a knight, you are to work at your own pace, ne? I'm only wondering about this because I tend to be busy with all my classes and traveling. I am happy to say though, I do always have sketch materials with me whenever I go! : )
2006-08-17 [travs the bean]: you work at your own pace there is no rush-
2006-08-17 [~Saraneth~]: Thanks for answering my q's and sorry to bother you with my mindless chatter. I always get back to my point in a roundabout sort of way though. ta ta XD
2006-08-17 [Azuri]: Weee its good to work at your own pace i hardly have time for anything anymore :(*wonders where all the time goes*
2006-08-17 [~Saraneth~]: I absolutely know that feeling. I just put a stop to all my commisions for my friends because I can't keep up with it all. But in the end having talents and being busy is better than having no talents and being completely bored. =]
2006-08-18 [Azuri]: True true*does the happy excited dance and runs off to finish enrolling in college*
2006-08-18 [Azuri]: Question I forgot to ask admist my scurring. Generally how long do people stay younglings before they go to squire, I know that you have to be chosen by a Knight but I was wondering if there was a set wait time of some sort?
2006-08-18 [Perplexity]: I suppose that depends on how many knights there are and how many squires they are willing to take on.
2006-08-18 [Just.Kate]: Im willing to give this a shot... Im just not sure how to go about finding a knight to take me on. Ive perfected my lineart skills, in Photoshop, but I need help with colouring, and with traditional mediums.
2006-08-18 [Azuri]: Yea hmm oh well was just wondering^_^
2006-08-21 [~Saraneth~]: Well I can't answer your questions but I too was wondering the same thing. But about getting a knight to take you on, they pick you and find you you don't pick them is what I got out of it all. I'm not sure if I'm right about this but I think it states somewhee the more art you put the better chance you have of becoming picked.
2006-08-21 [Yuriona]: Perfection is an illusion. :P All you can do is get started on the trials on your own. A knight will take you on when they can. :)
2006-08-21 [travs the bean]: Dark Arrow: Yncke has reached the stage of knight- she may teach trial 2.
I would also like to remind squires and younglings that the knights are all working to be master craftsman and several are working on earning the blue and green jewels. So like you they are still growing and learning- which is what this wiki is based about.
Still be patient and the knights will seek you out.
2006-08-21 [Perplexity]: Congrats, Yncke! =)
2006-08-21 [Just.Kate]: Do I just make a wiki like hers, and let you put any appropriate badge thingies in, then? o.O;
2006-08-21 [travs the bean]: we change the titles and add the badges- so keep the password blank you get to fill in the blanks and the art:)
2006-08-21 [Just.Kate]: Okie dokie ^_^ Here it is then, a blank canvas: Dark Arrow: Kieli
2006-08-21 [travs the bean]: just post in the youngling section and be patient:)
2006-08-21 [Just.Kate]: Certaintly. ^_^ I guess I'll complete the digital inking trial, and then move on to the cg trial. Hopefully by then I will be picked. ^_^
2006-08-21 [travs the bean]: just remember you will prob have to start the trials over with your knight- that way you can make corrections from start to finish- - use the trails fro now as practice
2006-08-21 [Just.Kate]: -nods- Im a bit of a newb, I know, but where is the youngling section to paste that link to?
2006-08-21 [Jitter]: Dark Arrow:Yellow Arrow had a hard time to find it too ;p
2006-08-21 [Just.Kate]: Thank you :3
2006-08-21 [travs the bean]: yellow shield:)
2006-08-21 [Jitter]: No prob ^_^
2006-08-22 [Silver Wind]: Many congratulation
2006-08-22 [TheRogue]: congrats!
2006-08-22 [Jitter]: Grats Yncke!
2006-08-23 [deeterhi]: congratulation
2006-08-23 [~Saraneth~]: Yay! That must have taken much effort! Good Job [Yncke]! I lov ehow everyone here is very supportive. =]
2006-08-23 [Azuri]: It is nice isnt it^_^
2006-08-24 [Kachichan]: Congratulation
2006-08-25 [Yncke]: *blush* Thank you all. :) (I can't believe I didn't have this page on watch.)
2006-08-25 [Azuri]: Haha i hate when that happens XD
2006-08-29 [Daisy_Sandybanks]: Oh, this is wonderful! May I join the many talented people here and make a member wiki page?
2006-08-29 [travs the bean]: read it all first before you join
2006-08-29 [Daisy_Sandybanks]: Yes, yes of couse :)
2006-08-29 [DarkJenni]: yeah, if you read it all...then you'll understand I actually read darkarrow: is it worth it, and I really liked how you worded everything [travs the bean], helped me to understand a few things, just thought I should mention that.
2006-08-29 [Just.Kate]: May I suggest that digital inking be added to the list of tutorials/tria
2006-08-29 [DarkJenni]: O.o that would be nice.
2006-08-29 [travs the bean]: there is a digital inking mark- and there is also a tutorial about digital inking as well
2006-08-29 [Just.Kate]: Well, I can certaintly help with that one, if you decide to make a full blown trial out of it. Its one of the few techniques I have perfected.
2006-08-29 [travs the bean]: if you would like go to the squire shield and look up the tutorial on digital inking - it is fantastic
2006-08-29 [Just.Kate]: Certaintly ^_^ ... Ah mmhmm, an Illustrator tut, with the pen tool. I am a photoshop person, myself, but the pen tool transcends the boundries of hex codes and product branding. xD
2006-08-29 [travs the bean]: only way to ink:) actually i really love using the pen tool by keep it as a vector art piece you can resize it to any size without loosing it's detail- no pixalization- stay away from auto trace.
2006-08-29 [travs the bean]: we have a new knight- erinbabe- she earned it- it was tough but well done experience-
trav
2006-08-29 [Mom]: I just saw that on her Dark Arrow: Erinbabe page and I Thought I slept through it or just too busy to notice. Congrats [Rennie] you definately deserve it. Amazing work. *hugs*
2006-08-29 [Just.Kate]: 'Grats!
2006-08-30 [Silver Wind]: Congrats!
2006-08-30 [Just.Kate]: I'm almost done with the first part of trial 5... Might I have a bit of c/c, por favor? DAT5: Kieli
2006-10-17 [deeterhi]: this is a note to all squires. if you didn't already know, travis is not going to have the time to devote to darkarrow at the moment. he's busy with his books and such, so that he has left [Elisha Kelly] and I in charge. and so we will help you guys out any way that we can until he gets back. nothing else is changing. it's just that now you may hear from either of us when working on the trials.
2006-10-17 [Calico Tiger]: Okie doke! Looking forward to his new book :D
2006-10-29 [Iron-Man-429]: aw man I need to seriously join this
2006-10-30 [Elisha Kelly]: *poke* then join!
2006-10-30 [Azuri]: Mesh its fun to join^_^
2006-10-31 [Asrun]: I'm thinking about joining now.. I just don't know if I'll have a lot of time to do personal illustrations outside of school. ;______; *laughs cause she happened to stumble on Trav's DA site* :D
2006-11-01 [Elisha Kelly]: we're all taken it pretty slow at the mo... I know I have been flat out like a lizard drinking for weeks...
2006-11-01 [Azuri]: Lol yea I have a lot of work for school as well, I'm also working a lot so I know how that feels >>
2006-11-04 [~Saraneth~]: ditto here. so much to do! if only there were 30 hours in a day. of course then I feel more might even be expected of us then . . . @_@
2006-11-05 [Azuri]: Yea O.o I hear ya there. I can just barely get my homework inbetween sleeping and working >_< I swear I need more time in my day.
2006-11-05 [moonscale]: Same here, I found this site a while a go and I've been meaning to try and join, but I definitely don't have enough time between school and my jobs and everything. I haven't done any art in the past two weeks! *is ashamed*
2006-11-05 [Elisha Kelly]: >.> I keep getting distracted... and doing stuff that should wait until I finish other stuff...
2006-11-06 [Azuri]: *nod* same here >>
2006-11-29 [Just.Kate]: Secret Santa 2006
2006-12-12 [Ultiem]: i need assistance with a project..i would like a badge made for Elftown Merchants made in to form of a monkey if it can be done id greatly appreciate it
2006-12-28 [deeterhi]: this isn't really the place for requesting any specific artwork. you may ask individual artists if they might be interested in helping. i know there is a place over at The Art Store which has a request page for that sort of thing.
2007-02-02 [5thwitch]: *shy*I'd like to join*shy*
2007-02-15 [Talvikki]: don't be shy, this is the intarweb..
2007-02-15 [Talvikki]: ok, ima read all the fine print, but then i think i will join..
i have about a million things to do, but i will MAKE time, because i NEED to be doing more for my art. if i have to have you guys putting a gun to my head to make me do it, so be it :)
2007-06-19 [travs the bean]: Hello my knights, squires and hopefuls- I have returned for a bit and look forward to getting back into the game- I have finished the 2nd book of my series and now i have some time this summer to rework somethings- I will continue to let deeterhi and Elysiann run the show and hopefully the knights and i will be able to streamline some of the procedures and tests.
It is good to see the house is still standing as well.
2007-06-19 [Yuriona]: LOL! We haven't managed to knock it down yet. ;)
2007-08-03 [Kahri]: I have a question. To participate in the wiki, do I have to have a scanner immediately or can I just use a camera for now? See, the scanner I have at home hasn't revealed it's secret as to how it works yet and it will be another month before I can get to the scanner at my school.
2007-08-03 [iippo]: (Slightly related to that: if you do rely on the camera to get your work digital, have a look-see at photographing art)
2007-08-03 [Kahri]: Thanks for the tips!
2007-08-10 [Lord Dog]: ok I got assignment one up
2007-08-10 [Elisha Kelly]: I shall take a look in a moment :D
2007-08-10 [Elisha Kelly]: [Lord Dog] you don't seem to have a page up at the yellow arrow?
