2008-04-17 [Veltzeh]: The self-made bookmark list on the right needs to be sortable! ;)
2008-04-18 [Yncke]: It would be nice to have a threaded view for the forums. (Or if there is such a thing, it should be way more obvious to find. ;) ) I think they would be more accessible if they look more like the forums people are used to use in other places.
Perhaps the mood box could be moved further away from the find user box, it wouldn't be the first time I'm clumsily changing my mood in a user I'm looking for. The mood could become part of the user data, and the wiki name box and forum number box could move closer to the user name search, which would be a more logical arrangement.
2008-04-18 [Veltzeh]: Also, whenever there's a graphic button, it should be replaceable with a text button because of stylesheets!
2008-04-18 [Veltzeh]: The moods of people should be hideable in the Online friends list and searches!
2008-04-19 [Imperator]: Every button looks different in text size, color, and font not to mention the boxes themselves. To some extent that is understandable due to the number of words, etc; but more uniformity would be nice.
Also I find the picture next to the "delete yourself from Elftown button" to be rather garish and unnecessary...
2008-04-19 [Imperator]: The "send yourself a message box" seems out of place in one's house and seems better suited for being placed on the "view messages" or "sent messages" pages.
2008-04-19 [Nita]: And thanks, everyone! You can post more now ;)
2008-04-19 [Sunrose]: Hmmm the 'send yourself a message' box makes sense where it's placed now, as this is the 'send message' spot on all houses.
2008-04-19 [True, plain and simple]: Yeah, but I did wonder if that was the best place for either box. It makes you see the whole house, but the houses are quite long.. :P
2008-04-19 [Sunrose]: I don't know, but I think it makes most sense if it's uniform :P
2008-04-19 [True, plain and simple]: Aye. :)
2008-04-20 [Yncke]: @[Nita]: I find the mood a bit out of place in the navigation of Elftown. In my opinion, it has a more logical place in the view you get when clicking "Change personal data".
It would be nice to have some kind of calendar view, instead of long listings of contests and their deadlines. Official contests could be featured automatically on your calendar, and a privately organised contest could associate a date for its deadline to its wiki, and you could mark it to show it on your calendar too. (Maybe birthdays of your friends could be there too?)
2008-04-21 [Nita]: [Sunrose], [True, plain and simple] - Perhaps we could have an extra form for sending messages to yourself and your relations on the inbox/outbox pages? Unless they're too crowded already :P
2008-04-21 [Nita]: [Yncke] - I think the idea with the mood is to be able to change it quickly and often. I would place it between "new messages etc." and "online friends" (<URL:_Elfto
2008-04-21 [Nita]: A calendar view is a cool idea of the new feature variety :)
2008-04-21 [Sunrose]: @[Yncke]: It would be kind of annoying to get 'house changes' every time a member changes their mood :/
@[Nita]: To have the form twice?
I don't think the pages are too crowded, it only shows the last 20 messages or so anyway..but having it twice might be confusing..
The calender-idea is cool indeed. This reminds me of the pretty neat Outlook calendar..
2008-04-21 [Veltzeh]: I think the mood could be right on the Your House page. That way it wouldn't be in the way but it could be quickly changed.
2008-04-21 [Yncke]: - mood:
@[Nita]: I see your point.
@[Sunrose]: It doesn't need to generate house changes. (As it would be a nice feature that a stylesheet change doesn't generate a house change.)
- Calendar:
@[Nita]: Yes, it probably is. I'll move it to the suggestions forum then. :)
2008-04-21 [Sunrose]: @[Yncke]: In that sense it would be better if all user-only details were excluded from house-changes :)
2008-04-21 [True, plain and simple]: @[Yncke] - The house form code is pretty dynamically created, and this is why all submissions to that form produce a house change. I guess that it's technically possible to fix that, but I'm not sure..
2008-04-21 [Sunrose]: Perhaps it would mean members would have two forms. One for user-only details, and one for public details..
2008-04-21 [True, plain and simple]: The only issue is the more actual code I have to change, the more [Hedda] will be inclined to review it all, and since the more he has to look over the longer it'll take, it might be some time.
2008-04-21 [Yncke]: Or you could have two submit buttons, one which generates a house change, and another that doesn't. That way, if you see a typo in your description, you have the option not to trigger a house change.
2008-04-26 [Imperator]: The "Elftown Crew Wannabe" should be changed to "Elftown Crew Member" or at least have another option for "Elftown Crew Member" if you actually are a member and not just a "wannabe".
2008-04-27 [Imperator]: The "Private Information" box in your house should be placed under the "Other Interests" box or the "Description" box.
2008-04-30 [Imperator]: Create an actual chain of command for who holds what authority in the Elftown government.
2008-05-02 [Imperator]: Perhaps similar to that but also applied to the Council, Assembly, Guards, Mayor, etc.
2008-05-02 [windowframe]: Like Council and Assembly?
2008-05-02 [Imperator]: I'm talking about something that would essentially rank all the crew members, not just within each type.
2008-05-03 [Imperator]: Well... I'm looking for something that actually outlines the powers of each position because as I see it, they're just titles that gives the bearer more rights to mess around with Elftown stuff. I don't know, maybe I'm just being difficult and don't understand since I'm not actually on anything.
2008-05-04 [Yncke]: It would be nice if more stylesheets were available that aren't very heavy on the graphics, and don't use a lot of spacing for the navigation.
2008-05-04 [Veltzeh]: I agree on that! I've tried to make my stylesheet that way, but currently (or when I made the stylesheet) there's no way to make the graphic buttons into text ones...
2008-05-05 [Hedda]: "* improve the layout and look of buttons on exported pages for usability - [Nita]"
I'm halfway through that work and will continue with it now when the taxes are done and I don't cough so bloody much. My idea is to make the exported and non-exported pages more similar. And I'll move up the wiki-info box closer to the top and I'll try to fit the buttons there (edit-buttons).
The export, export as html and those buttons will be moved to the Edit-page only.
I'm not sure what to do with the watch and put-under-wiki
The reminder-form might be moved too.
I'll use javascript to make the bigger form take up less space, but that you have to click a button before they expand.
2008-05-05 [Hedda]: "house changes' every time a member changes their mood"
What about this: Close to the mood, there can be a link to "friends' moods" that will take you to a list of what moods your friends have changed to lately.
2008-05-05 [Hedda]: (of course you'll see junk like a mood change to correct a spelling mistake too)
2008-05-06 [Imperator]: friends' moods
What if instead of the box that tells you which of your friends are online, that box listed all the members you specified (friends or not) and it will always show those members and their moods and then tell if they are online.
2008-05-06 [Yncke]: @[Hedda]: I think a good place to put the 'Watch' button is the same place as the 'Previous version' button. The advantage is that it's on the same place, regardless of how long the wiki is.
2008-05-06 [Hedda]: [Imperator]: Nah, you can watch non-friends' houses, but if you want to see when they are online, I think you should have to have a relation.
The problems moods are that you don't get a history of them. Often I would be interested if some of my friends have written "On Bahamas" for a weekend even if I missed to see that mood when it was there.
2008-05-07 [Imperator]: Yes, just friends is probably better.
What if there was a link on the member's house that showed the past week of moods or maybe a specific number of past moods with the time and date next to it?
2008-05-07 [Yncke]: And perhaps, a list of the previous user names too?
2008-05-07 [Hedda]: What about moving the edit-mood form to your house only? It's kind of in the way on every page, I think.
The list of previous user names are available for the guards. People should not be encouraged to change names, so I will not implement anything that will even remotely give people the idea that a name-change is a good idea and something that they should do.
2008-05-07 [Veltzeh]: Yeah, own house is a good place for the mood-change box!
2008-05-07 [Yncke]: The main reason why I asked for a name history is this: people clearing their house, replacing their name by some random hit on the keyboard, and leaving Elftown. When I have that house on watch, I'd like to know who left.
2008-05-07 [Hedda]: You can see that by listing the messages between you and the member.
I really hate when people do that. It's like taking a crap in your working space on your last day at that work.
2008-05-07 [Imperator]: lol, You wouldn't have that problem there was a real "delete yourself" button. The only argument I've heard against deleting yourself is that it leaves a blank house number but I don't see why the "next member" button couldn't just skip deleted houses...
2008-05-07 [True, plain and simple]: No, it breaks links and makes old things not work so great.
2008-05-07 [Imperator]: I wouldn't know...
2008-05-08 [Yncke]: I don't send messages to every house I put on watch. :S
2008-05-09 [Imperator]: Ooooooo. Thanks Sunrose. :-)
2008-05-21 [Imperator]: It would be nice to be able to see our house description area while we edit it just like with wiki pages.
2008-05-24 [Imperator]: Move the wiki page keyword search button to underneath the regular wiki page search box.
2008-05-25 [Hedda]: The boxes to the right will be more logically placed in the upcoming version. The mood will be gone and only appear in your house.
2008-05-25 [Nita]: Wow, you're on a roll! ;) *hugs*
2008-05-25 [Imperator]: What if the "Elftown status" statistics and things were moved to a wiki page along with today's birthdays and the map of where Elftown members live? Any other odds and ends similar to those things could go on that page too.
2008-05-28 [Imperator]: 1. There should be a space under the official badge space for the owner of the house to edit and place their own unofficial badges that they win from unofficial contests.
2. The login page to Elftown should have a background color other than black because it seems out of place with the green theme of this web site and makes me feel like I'm entering some emo kid club.
3. Perhaps the birthday reminder messages could have a picture of a cake and balloons or something other than [Hedda]'s cat... I don't know, it's just a matter of taste, that's all. :-)
2008-05-28 [windowframe]: I don't think any other colour would set off the main ET image as well as black does. :P
2008-05-29 [Imperator]: Perhaps not. Yet my opinion stands.
2008-05-29 [iippo]: The mainpage colour conversation would be so much easier for everyone if you'd put together some mock-ups of how it would look like with these other colours (screenshot the page and change the black to other colours?)
2008-05-29 [Imperator]: I'm not technologicall
2008-05-29 [Calico Tiger]: Something like the "adoptables" box over at Elf12 would be groovy. And it could be run a little better (now that I've had more time to think about how it could be designed a little better).
You would still have to upkeep wiki pages that list the various "pets" that are available (none of them limited editions, I hate that. Everyone should have an equal chance to get a pet. No elitism). However, you can cut out the need for having a crew member watching each of those pages simply to have to "deliver" a pet:
In the "update information" page in everyone's house, have that box have a set of dropdown menus (a check box in front of it to show that you want a pet to show up in that box from that particular dropdown menu). So menu 1 would list the types of "pets". Menu 2 would then list the colors/numbers of the pets in that category (which can be viewed on the wiki pages if it's not descriptive enough in its name). Then when the member click "save changes", voila! It shows up, the member got to choose it themself and can change it whenever they want, and the crew didn't have to get involved. And as the box is regulated by the dropdown menus and nothing else, they can't even fill it with other junk.
I'd situate the box down below their house description, btw. As their personal description should be more important than showing off their critters.
No, they wouldn't be able to name it, but they can live with that. They can talk about it and name it in their description if they need to (and hotlink the image with it in their description as well).
As for how many... hmmm.... Either a flat number for everyone (3 or so), or 1 when you join, +1 for each number of years you continue to be at Elftown. Of course, when Elftown gets ancient, that could be a huge zoo people own.... so that might be a bad idea later in the future x)
Hope that made sense! I know people like critters and things, maybe this would draw in more people, especially those who like to draw their pets and avatars from various other sites ;)
2008-05-29 [Calico Tiger]: To [Imperator] - You take a screenshot by hitting the "print screen" button :)
2008-05-29 [Imperator]: Oh dear! I can't find a "print screen" button! All I've got is a "print" button...
