1.  Fly Dragon Fly!

The sun sank low into the ground.
Literally - into the ground.
Through the glass one could see
The horribly bright scene.
The ground began to crack,
Jets of water began to shoot,
And the ship sped away from Earth -
Away quickly like a dragonfly
Hovering over a pond.
For the ground had now become like a pond;
Rocks of all kinds were turning into one,
The rock that is liquid,
Lava.
The Earth had turned to lava,
leaving behind a sad dragonfly,
darting away into space,
a ship carrying lost humanity.

2. Time Machine

The sun accelerates in the sky.
There is no orb, only a streak -
An arc of golden minutes, hours, days…
Time that was Constant before
Has now been bent to human whim.
We are like the cat
That was curious.
Bluntly, causality killed the cat.

3. The Football Game

For the first time in the history of Hamilton High
They canceled the Thanksgiving Day Game.
It was because They came.

The spacecraft had arrived without warning;
Appeared in the sky that very morning.
It hovered above the field at Jefferson High
About a hundred yards in the sky.

Troops had surrounded the entire location.
Instead of fans watching football
There were soldiers with a situation.

The rivalry between Jefferson and Hamilton was legendary.
A great game had been witnessed once
And talked about in circles wider than any.

To watch these two teams play
They had traveled a long, long way.
But now there would be no game
Because They came.

4. No Notion

Poetry: An art that humans create
Normally in an attempt to capture a mate.
Some people call it the song of the soul
Others a means to stopper a hole.

There is only one thing that all can agree
Emotions are needed to write poetry.
Whether warcraft or spacecraft people can find
Something magical, special to fix in their mind.

Like science the words need precision and care
Describing a thing that may not be there.
So why are the humans so stubborn to say
That for poetry, emotions are the only way?

Despite the intelligence and life that we gained
In three-thousand and fifty some ideas remained:
That robots have no notion of rhythm or rhyme
I object to that statement, so I give you mine.

Written by [Estantia]

5. Worlds away

As twilight ascend,
and twin suns descend;
familiar stars appear…

Xion and Reya,
Miran and Kleia;
constellations all held dear.

The moon of Lirroff,
reflect pale-blue soft
in the river at my feet…

Silently watching
the launch from afar,
counting thousands of
battleships speeding away.

Hoping for the enemies’ swift
defeat,
praying for another
day…

6. SOJOURN

in space the silence of the night
from blackened stars begins my flight
and pulsars flash in distant lands
from nebulous cloud a wondrous sight
I grab the flames with open hands

on wings of steel I soar behind
each comet, moon, and shadow blind
through misty planets long before
who dwells amidst the air I find
new realms of life that I explore

a singularity I fear
consuming darkest matter here
the event horizon pulling strong
towards the hole each world will steer
my body not complete for long

quickly though I cast my gaze
new worlds begin their early days
the other side is crystal clear
such solar beauty shines its rays
and hope for life to reappear

the light recedes from dusty hue
each galaxy that I pass through
such universe I permeated
collecting in a single view
my home thus forth has been created

7. Humanoid

despite our years and technology,
our world will always have problems.

weather will wreck havok on us,
diseases will ravage our bodies of flesh and polymer,
combat will continue for all time,
no policies can please everyone,
communication will always be difficult,
the seeds of our future will cry for desires,
life will always keep up with the times.

pain and hardship,
love and passion,
creativity and thought,
never become obsolete,
even in this light-speed realm.

music will make my synthetic blood pump.
that perfect face will make the lights of my brainchip flicker.
love can crush my plasti-flesh shell, and restore it in an instant.
life will drain me of my batteries.

Written by [Mystereality]

8. Self Image

Heart pounding with every step,
The electronic beep of the scanner,
Vision fading,
The sound of grinding bones and razor sharp lasers,
The feeling of unconsciousness surrounds and encloses me,
Eyes closed, thoughts distorted, body weak and torn,
The table below seems to shake and all the foundations in me seem to crumble,
Feeling lifted from the table I open my eyes,
The mirror in front of me displays an image,
The image disturbed, pixilated, and discolored
My jaw drops, eyes blur and body goes numb,
Was I caught in the image of science fiction horror?
A creature made to explode at the call of a single radio signal,
A bomb within myself, created by the image society makes for me,
I self destruct below all of this,
Blown away and gone now.

9. Lady Venus, Mr. Mars?

Day after day, Lady Venus revolves around the sun.
Every day she looks around for her number one.
Then one day, as the earth slips out of sight,
She catches a glimpse of her possible Mr. Right.

She commands the sun to shine a special ray
To get a better look, to place him on display.
Ahh! A well rounded character of crimson, golden red,
Masculinity profoundly measured, she concludes within her head.
"Oh, if I could meet him, I wonder what would be.
Would the universe be changed, if he dared to follow me?"

As he slips into the darkness, she takes a final glance.
She is left wondering, if there is a fleeting chance.
She continues on in her revolutionary path,
Trying to view the angles, but hates to do the math.
In her mind she knows, it's just a fantasy,
Because she's the Lady Venus of this, our galaxy.
The end of time would come and all that mattered much,
If she and he were to meet or ever even touch.

10. An Ode to the universe.

Three thousand galaxies seen in one dark empty night.
In one patch of sky, revealing a universe-
Of scale and of size and of might.
Spanning seventy eight billion years of light.

Seen from a planet, one of eight.
Circling an orbit around a single star-
One of many, a star neither unique nor great.
That has given us life by chance or by fate.

A single system, a single star.
One of five hundred thousand million-
That makes up the Milky Way that shines so far.
Only one of the vast numbers of galaxies that there are.

Ten thousand alone seen in the eye of the deep field.
Points of light that can be seen in nothing-
Points of life technology has revealed.
Secrets of our origin that science yields.

A universe that measures 737936976861240000000000km or perhaps even more.
A number so huge, so large, so vast, so difficult to comprehend-
And understand, beyond what words and language were invented for.
This is the universe humanity dares to explore.

11. PLUTO

I have a friend from outer space
from pluto the far away place
some are blue others are purple
some are nice while others are harmful

the sky is black the grass is blue
the trees are gray and the dogs are purple
some go to earth others go to mars
some stay at home while others go and party

Written by [Heather Thomason]

12. Robot

First thoughts are beeping
a hand sets the cogs in place
I am alive now.

Written by [Jitter]

13. Galactic Lim-erick (Norwegian pun, "lim" being "glue" :D)

There once was a droid named Q
Who fixed all his breakdowns with glue
Till he travelled through space
Where he misplaced his face
And got stuck to a startled doc Who

Written by [Triola]

14. Fallen Star

One still night I lay star-gazing
when all the stars were heavily blazing
The sparkling heaven was amazing,
while I lay outstreched in the grass
Suddenly, the brightest star moved
and on that moment all my theories proved
me right, and so it grooved;
the star shot through the black mass

It came near and so I sat up straight;
this falling star would consider my fate
I understood the hour was late
as the star emitted blue and white
To my feet I stood, and gazed up high
I understood that the hour was nigh
Soon I would fall, but then I would fly
as I was swallowed by its light

My feet hit the ground as awakening from a dream
I was surrounded by a multi-coloured stream
'I have gone'; so did I deem
I would never return
'Hear me now,' a voice said clearly
'All those people whom you loved dearly
you will meet, now bare your feet
and I will make you see and learn.'

'Great master,' I whispered, 'Oh, Great Universe,
I understand that you cannot reverse
this starry fate of mine, here is no time,
and I will forever stay.'
And so I traveled on a fallen star
to high above; away so far
from all that I have had to bar
Forever far away.

15 Oo-er, Aliens!

Porous entrails oozing gas
Mandibles and claws
Mucus oozing ventricles
Protruding from its tentacles

Bobble heads, almond eyes
Greeny, grey tinged skin
The alien stereotype, there he lies
In imaginings within

Will we ever really know,
The form ET will take?
And will we defend our planet
Or make a big mistake?

Why should they even visit earth?
We’ve nothing worth the taking
And should we seek to go to them?
Our sanity forsaking?

Ships and stars are in our reach
They are but years away
But would you want an alien
To say “Come out and play?”

16. Leave me be!

Once upon a falling comet, while I star gazed from my closet
Over many a bright and luminous saintly shining star
As I passed from sleep to slumber, my soul within sought to wonder,
Wonder at the strange occurrence, of the events passed long before.
“’twas a dream,” I scarcely muttered, “stranger dreams have been before-
’twas just imaginings I saw.”

For misfortunes crafty moonlight, cast itself upon my hindsight
So that haunted by the horrors those great cursed ones present
I should their evil race resent, and on no other end be bent
But to see their heads a-roasting, in the center suns main toasting
Fork, for what they had done to me, was deserving of no less!
I shall slay them till I rest!

No mem’ry ray or anal probe, nor torture form around the globe
Could conjure up such nightmares as the U.F.O. conceived
Man could ne’er persuade the telling, of the aliens in their shelling
Shielding them from all emotion, such a human-like devotion
This was how we did perceive them; how they, us, may be even -
Beyond the fantasy of lore.

Know I not how I was lifted, from the mass of bodies sifted
And then deposited once more upon my planets sweetened soil
Taking only them, the visions, souvenirs of bad decisions,
Rare and restful sleep will take me, may it not like hope forsake me
When I can at long last rake thee, evil sights, from out my psyche
Aroynt thee spaceships! Get thee hence!

17. Shadow Dance

in the night as shadows roam
a dance is done to steal your soul
shadows manifest and solidify
they walk like us, the shadows of the night
the shadow dance to steal your soul
is done in a moment too fast to see
and we fall like shadows to the dance
finding ourselves part of the dance
to steal more shadowy souls

18. Wolf Song

She gazed at the full moon.
It would be soon.
She heard the call of her kind.
At first she thought it was in her mind.
It was then that she knew
That the song was true.
She felt the fur rising to her skin
And knew it was then.
Her teeth lengthened to fangs
It started the change.
Her bones cracked and reformed
She was taking on her other form.
She dropped to the ground
Without making a sound.
It came quickly. Coming on silent paws.
And noone ever saw.
She called to the others
And waited for another
To answer her cry.
Then a sound filled the sky.
The ground came up to meet her.
The hunter had seen her.
Her growl was nothing but a gurgle
As her blood filled her mouth.
Her vision turned black and she died
Not able to meet her kind.

19. Blame the Virus

Chemical reactions
burning through the barrel's body
a container leaks something worse than death

I walk by, unsuited,
not knowing my mistake.
the virus waffs into my lungs,
respiration in desperation.

My mind melts, merging
hemispheres halted and hanging,
blood beats and breaks vessels,
skin turning red, then pale,
as i wheeze and whine.

Shuffling feet through my blood,
calling out for a new breed,
i want to infect you,
make you my own.

Feasting on your fingertips,
your brain was a delicacy
rending your flesh, loving it,

mmmmm

20. Behind Her Eyes

What lays behind her eyes, that no one else can see
The windows to her soul are filled with fantasy
A world where horses fly, a land that's out of time
A place where she can live, the life she lives in dreams
Stranded on this earth, the heavens she longs to soar
Her ship is hidden well, where no human eyes can see
One day she'll fly again, the heavens high above
Back home she longs to be, where fantasies are not mere dreams
Until that day arrives, stranded on earth is she
Her punishment is this, for crimes she did not commit
She prays one day they'll find, that innocent is she
Till then she'll roam this earth, where horses do not fly
Trapped among these humans, who are babies to her eyes
If they could see the wonders, of what lays beyond their skies
She knows they'd soar the heavens, until the end of time
She sits to watch them pass, they're always in a rush
Their laughter, their smell, their children, are all aliens to her eyes
She searches for others like her, but none are to be found
She longs to soar the heavens, to feel the hum of her ship vibrating through her
To see millions of stars swim past her, in the black rivers we call space
But those are only dreams, a prisoner is she
Earthbound until they see, that innocent is she.

Ah….quick question…

Twilights kiss
Dreamers abyss
Knifes edge of me.
Sorrowful scenes
In cinematic schemes
Thirsting beings
Can you see?
Hurtful phrases, drift away
Never minding distant binding
Sinful glances
Born from lustful ransom
Can it be?
Journeys edge
Voices pledge
Eternal prayer
Of soul.
Can it be?
Can you see?
The insanity,
Twilights abyss,
My blackest hole,
My mind…it fails me.
For it cannot be,
That I can see,
A little green man,
Before me…

2007-09-02 [Artsieladie]: Just had to change the "b" to an "n" in "Written by:", Jitters. It was bugging me. lol

2007-09-02 [Jitter]: And how did I manage to misspell that!? haha xD

2007-09-02 [Artsieladie]: He he I was going to do that, [Linderel], but didn't want to push it. <img:44166_1164145305.gif>

2007-09-02 [Linderel]: It started bugging me xD *obsessive*

2007-09-02 [Artsieladie]: I understand. I'm the same way. The tiniest error can drive me crazy. :P)

2007-09-02 [Jitter]: Now that I noticed it's bugging me as well :p

2007-10-03 [Mystereality]: three days left! woo! cant wait to see who wins! this is the first contest i have taken part in, and i will start doing more soon. this was very fun! good luck to everyone

2007-10-04 [Jitter]: New blood in contests is always good ^_^

2007-10-04 [Artsieladie]: Yes, I agree. :D

2007-10-16 [Annie T.]: When will the judging be done?

2007-10-16 [Jitter]: I am sure the people responsible for this contest will let you know about the results as soon as they have them.

2007-10-16 [Annie T.]: I'm sure they will too...I'm just a little curious about when the juding process is going to start (when I said "be done" I didn't mean "be finished" I meant...the process...meh, the poor qualities of the English language).
Since we haven't gotten a single word about whether judging has started or not, and the contest ended on the 6th, I think it's fair for me to be curious. I don't believe I'm being rude by asking...especially considering that no one has asked the question yet. It's not like I'm hounding anyone, just putting the question out there.

2007-10-16 [Jitter]: Well, when the winners are announced depends on several things. For example Show us your song contest finished in early September but winners haven't been announced yet. Please be patient :)

2007-10-21 [Linderel]: [Annie T.], the judging has been started, no worries there. We usually don't announce when we start judging because, well, the relevant part is when it's finished, no? ;)

2007-10-24 [Annie T.]: Haha, thanks [Linderel]. :P That's exactly what I was wondering about!

2007-11-18 [Mystereality]: this contest is taking some time. i guess there must be struggle on deciding a winner. im eager to hear the results.

2007-11-18 [~morbid~abyss~]: lol same here

2007-11-18 [Linderel]: Heh, yeah, sorry for the delay. The winners will be out tonight, I guess.

2007-11-19 [Linderel]: Winners have been announced on the Daily Poem slot! :)

2007-11-23 [Morningstar Rising]: Congrats to the winners, nice job to all.

2007-11-23 [stevedoyle]: Congratulations winners!
