2006-11-27 [Dark Side of the Moon]: Oooh, they're all so wonderful! I can't decide whose I like best so far!
2006-11-30 [Sunrose]: [Danse Macabre]: Your entry has been removed for being too short. This contest is not for haiku's,
but for poems of at least 5 lines..
[siroku]: Your entry has been removed for being too short, it must at least be 5 lines..
2006-12-01 [Danse Macabre]: oh sorry should have looked at the line limit!
2006-12-01 [GoneGone]: What is the format for titles? Bold or not?
2006-12-01 [Sunrose]: Bold is ok :)
2006-12-02 [GoneGone]: [Diiwica], just a thought, but you might want to proofread your poem once more for things that, while spelled correctly, might not be what you mean to say...
2006-12-05 [Diiwica]: Yeah I reaized that after I posted it and I havn't been on since then. Sorry about that
2006-12-05 [GoneGone]: No apologies necessary. It's kinda cute.
2006-12-05 [Sunrose]: For it to be considered a serious entry though, I recommend some corrections...
2006-12-06 [The Warlock]: I haven't ever posted my work on elftown except for a couple on my page and I've defently never entered into a contest so I'd like to know what some of you think of my poem.
2006-12-06 [GoneGone]: Well, capitalized I's and basic punctuation might help.
2006-12-06 [Diiwica]: *looks at her entry* Indeed, I think i should look over that... Though to me it makes sence, I think I will have some others read it. (Not great at english)
2006-12-06 [Diiwica]: I hope that is better:)
2006-12-06 [Sunrose]: rite -- > right
I looked back at him, as he hands me the rose --> handed, past tence
We walk for miles just he and I -->walked, past tence
:)
2006-12-06 [Diiwica]: Thanks...
2006-12-06 [Dark Side of the Moon]: [Sunrose], it's spelled "tense".
2006-12-06 [Sunrose]: Heh, you got me :P
In my defence I say that it's midnight here and I never properly studied English grammar terms (and rules) ;P
2006-12-07 [GoneGone]: The "A" before inquisitive should be "An". Besides that, it looks to me like you've done a beautiful job.
2006-12-07 [The Warlock]: like that?
2006-12-07 [Diiwica]: Well thank you, I never really studied english. So everything I know comes from living with my family (Adopted)
2006-12-10 [The Warlock]: the last entry (Opposite feeling) needs to be removed because its a haiku not a poem
2006-12-10 [Blakkduv]: well haiku is a form of japanese poetry.
so you must be racist.
2006-12-10 [Fizban]: A sonnet is a type of poem, just like a Haiku.
What makes a sonnet acceptable, where a Haiku, is inacceptable?
There is no place in the rules that say poetry contest (except for haiku's, they aren't allowed)
2006-12-10 [Once upon a dream]: When will we know who won? This is my first time doing this... -_-'
2006-12-10 [shotokan_gal]: Haiku's not being allowed is nothing to do with racism :/ It is because they're only 3 lines long, and if you'd look more closely you'd see the applicable line in the rules reads:
Anywhere from 8-35 lines is acceptable.
2006-12-10 [shotokan_gal]: And to [Once upon a dream] - you won't know who won until at least after the deadline. Which is still 10 days away ;) After which judges will read the poems and the winners will be posted on mainstreet.
2006-12-10 [Sunrose]: Aside from the minimum amount of lines an entry must have, neither haiku's or poetry are considered a race thus it is impossible for it to be racism. You shouldn't throw words around just because you can't have your way.
2006-12-10 [Once upon a dream]: Thank you [shotokan_gal]! ^^
2006-12-10 [Blakkduv]: just a little thing called humor...
wow.
2006-12-10 [The Warlock]: yes thanks [shotokan_gal] I like all forms of poetry so if they did have races I would not be partal to any of them I was just trying to let you know because earlier a haiku had already been removed plus like previously stated there is a line requirement for this contest
2006-12-11 [Blakkduv]: I am still marveling over the fact that you have no sense of humor.
And by the by, why isn't under five lined poety allowed?
I mean who are you guys to restrict the creative aspirations of the eliquent manipulators of prose and syntax, who have the ability to express their notions in under 5 lines?
2006-12-11 [Dark Side of the Moon]: If I may say this, no one is restricting anyone's creative aspirations. You are free, just like anyone else that is a member here, to be as creative as you like. Not every contest here is suited my liking so I write my own stuff and put it on a wiki then add a link to it from my house. This is an official contest so there are rules that need to be followed because the officials say so. No one's keeping you from being creative.
2006-12-11 [Sunrose]: Sadly your type of 'humour' is used in a serious manner by many, which doesn't make it very original or funny.
In the past it has become clear that those who submit under 5 lines poems usually didn't put much effort into writing them, hence they turned out so short. Demanding a few basic criteria tends to inspire and encourage members to write a better submission.
We did actually have a prose contest recently.
You could of course round up your own group of volunteers to make contests with rules to your liking :)
2006-12-12 [Blakkduv]: cool
2006-12-12 [GoneGone]: I'd like to point out that perhaps [Heather Thomason]'s poem might be out of format as her poem is about Christmas, and the theme is snow. Apologies if I'm wrong.
2006-12-12 [Fizban]: snow is mentioned in the poem twice,...but it does appear as a mere minor facet of the poem, adding it simply as an after thought rather then a large factor of the poem.
It seems merely attached to the memory of Christmas, the main focus of the poem being the memories of this Christmas, and snow happens to be vaguely a feature of it.
2006-12-17 [Papa Don't Preach]: is mine ok, it was a response to another peom, but its still about winter and snow?? its the last one, well it was. no.30
2006-12-19 [GoneGone]: I posted my poem before Dec. 20th (by about five minutes), but I have edited it today. As the contest has not been officially declared closed yet, I hope the editing of my poem today does not affect its consideration when the judges take a look. Please don't delete me?
2006-12-19 [Dark Side of the Moon]: hmmm... It shows the page edit at 22:19:16. That's 10:19 p.m. If I'm correct and, assuming this ends at midnight ET time, then you got it in by almost 1 hour and 45 minutes.
2006-12-20 [Papa Don't Preach]: has it closed yet? it hasnt been declared?
2006-12-20 [Linderel]: You can keep posting/editin
The deadline was not last night, but rather the coming night.
2006-12-20 [Hedda]: [Lakayana] somehow placed a strange null-character in the text which made it impossible (Unless you use Opera) to submit the 87th version without removing that sign first, or get the text cut.
It's taken care of now. Therefore all the strange versions...
2006-12-20 [GoneGone]: Yay! I'm safe. Glee!
2006-12-20 [Artsieladie]: [Linderel], nice, ...I stuck your # in for you. Hope you don't mind! :D Mine is the quickest poem I've ever written! Time! Never enough! :P Merry Christmas, everyone!
2006-12-20 [Linderel]: Oh, oops. Figures I would forget something... xD Thanks.
2006-12-20 [Artsieladie]: YW! No prob! I do the same, sometimes, especially when I'm feeling rushed.
2006-12-20 [Dark Side of the Moon]: [Linderel], please fix the format of your entry or it will be removed!
just kidding...
2006-12-20 [Sunrose]: lolol
2006-12-20 [Linderel]: Pft, there would be nothing to fix anymore anyway. :P
2006-12-20 [Dark Side of the Moon]: I'm just razzing you. I really like your entry a lot! :)
2006-12-20 [Linderel]: Thankies. ^_^
2006-12-21 [Artsieladie]: [Dark Side of the Moon]...what a kidder! I didn't see your "just kidding" & I'm up there looking for what was wrong, b/c I didn't see anything wrong! lol I like it, too, ...
and I'm a rhyme person, so that says a lot!
2006-12-21 [Linderel]: Awww. :3 *blush*
2006-12-21 [Lakayana]: sorry Mayor! wat went wrong? I cant remember where I went wrong or what I did. I hope all is well. *Looks round and sees lots of happy faces* Hello[Linderel], [Dark Side of the Moon], [Sunrose], [Artsieladie], [Fizban] and other contestants. I wish you all a Merry Xmas. I know you we will all win
2006-12-21 [Sunrose]: It seems you added a character by accident that disabled retrieving a previous version. Don't worry, I don't think it's your fault and it has been fixed anyway! :)
2006-12-21 [Dark Side of the Moon]: heeee...!
2006-12-21 [Papa Don't Preach]: has it closed, i dont know, cos it sed the 20th,?
2006-12-21 [Sunrose]: Closed now :)
2006-12-21 [Papa Don't Preach]: oh ok, i got confused, sorry?
2006-12-21 [Linderel]: It has been closed now.
2006-12-21 [Papa Don't Preach]: yeah i know
2006-12-21 [Linderel]: Well, the question mark at the end of your previous comment indicated that you were still confused about it. My bad.
2006-12-21 [Papa Don't Preach]: its ok.
2006-12-21 [Once upon a dream]: When will we know who won?
2006-12-21 [Sunrose]: Hopefully around Christmas :)
2006-12-22 [Morningstar Rising]: Good luck to all, loved all the poetry.
2006-12-22 [Papa Don't Preach]: thanks, =]
2006-12-22 [Misty Lady]: Happy Christmas to everyone...hop
2006-12-22 [Papa Don't Preach]: same to you [Misty Lady]
2006-12-22 [Artsieladie]: Merry Christmas, EVERYONE! *huggles to ALL & huggles to Elftown*
2006-12-22 [Mekashef]: Happy Winter Solstice!
2006-12-22 [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]: mmm Blessed Be and Happy Yule and Winter Solstice to all :)
2006-12-22 [Artsieladie]: Yup! A merry, merry, merry no matter how everyone celebrates!
2006-12-23 [Hedda]: As a sidenote: In Swedish "Christmas" is "jul" which conviently doesn't contain "Christ", so here everyone can celebrate "jul" (Unless it's forbidden to give away presents, eat a lot and watch Donald Duck) in combination with what-ever they are celebrating.
So here there are plenty of muslim christmas tables and atheists like me are warshipping Donald Duck on the 24th.
And that's the spirit of Elftown Christmas too. It's filled with Santa and elves, but no public Christ as not everyone is Christian, but all are Elftowners
2006-12-23 [X-TheDarkened-X]: Wow... I've never heard of christmas to be like that! I'm athiest and i've always wondered if athiests should actually celebrate christmas, as it is part of christian religion?
2006-12-23 [Linderel]: I'm agnostic, and none of my (immediate) family members are part of any church. We still kind of celebrate Christmas, in the sense that we eat Christmas food and give presents. But, similarly to Swedes, we call Christmas 'joulu'.
2006-12-23 [X-TheDarkened-X]: I'm getting confused now! How many different versions of christmas are there? There must be lots.
2006-12-23 [Linderel]: There probably are quite a few versions of the word 'christmas' at least, since there are many languages in the world. Of course, there may be cultures/langu
2006-12-23 [X-TheDarkened-X]: True. It's just that i don't really know which religion is for the true "christmas." I know it's to celebrate Jesus' Birthday, but so many religions have taken this and made up their own name/reason for it.
2006-12-23 [Linderel]: Our words for it have come from 'Yule' which predates any definition Christianity has given the holiday.
2006-12-23 [X-TheDarkened-X]: And i always thought Christmas originally came from the Pagans... i'm learning a lot here!
2006-12-23 [Papa Don't Preach]: same, lol
2006-12-23 [Linderel]: Well... it did, kinda. http://en.wiki
2006-12-23 [X-TheDarkened-X]: Wow... i was half right about the pagans, and i thought the word Yule is now presented in "Yule log." Thanks for that!
2006-12-23 [Linderel]: Always happy to help. :)
2006-12-23 [X-TheDarkened-X]: Thanks again. I'll ask you if i have any more queries on christmas!
2006-12-24 [Papa Don't Preach]: who judges this contest?
2006-12-24 [X-TheDarkened-X]: The Elftown Council do
2006-12-24 [Papa Don't Preach]: ok, any ideas when it will be announced?
2006-12-24 [X-TheDarkened-X]: no idea, i guess when they have come to a decision
2006-12-24 [Papa Don't Preach]: oh ok... thanks anyway
2006-12-24 [X-TheDarkened-X]: Any time
2006-12-26 [Sunrose]: [EmeraldGrizzly]: Your entry has been removed for not following the theme (The theme was snow, your entry was solely about Santa Claus).
2006-12-26 [Artsieladie]: I have many friends of many faiths, beliefs, or the lack there of. It doesn't mean I care any less about them for I certainly do not! Actually, I ask them to tell me about their beliefs, or lack there of. With knowledge comes understanding, but ignorance only breeds ignorance.
2006-12-26 [Sunrose]: Huh?? O_o
2006-12-26 [Papa Don't Preach]: :S confused...
2006-12-26 [Linderel]: I think Artsie was commenting on the discussion a few comments back... that's my guess. :P
2006-12-26 [Papa Don't Preach]: oh ok, yeh. cool
2006-12-26 [EmeraldGrizzly]: nevermind.
2006-12-26 [Artsieladie]: Thanks, [Linderel]! I was. It's just that there were many comments in between. My fault. I should have made a reference.
2006-12-26 [Linderel]: By the way, everyone take a look at the Mainstreet. ;)
2006-12-27 [GoneGone]: Will the poems here be now deleted?
2006-12-27 [Linderel]: Erm, no. o_O Why would they be?
2006-12-27 [fangirl]: where excatly is the winners? i mean where are they posted?
2006-12-27 [Artsieladie]: On Mainstreet & didn't it come up under your news? Any way, congratulation
2006-12-27 [Lakayana]: congratulation
2006-12-27 [Papa Don't Preach]: yeah, congrats.. ^^;
2006-12-27 [Misty Lady]: Thank you all so much....I am delighted...an
2006-12-27 [Dark Side of the Moon]: thank you!
2006-12-27 [Priscilla Primkin]: Thank you. I'm touched. I thought many of the other poems were really good as well, and it's a pity there couldn't have been more winners. I'm looking forward to participating in more contests.
2006-12-27 [Lady Chaos]: Thanks! :D
2006-12-27 [GoneGone]: Linderel, I'd like to delete both of mine, please.
2006-12-28 [fangirl]: eh... another one bites the dust. lol well congrats to the winners!!!!!!!
2006-12-28 [fangirl]: no i didnt mean you! im sorry if you thought that!!!!! *shakes her head frantically* i ment my chance of winning.... this is the second one... thats all i ment. im sorry tht you took it the wrong way.i really ment my poems.
2006-12-28 [Morningstar Rising]: Congrats to the winners, see you all next year.
2006-12-28 [GoneGone]: I've had an unusually awful day; I think I'm still a little high-strung from it. Ugh. I feel like an over-sensitive idiot right now. I hope you can accept my apology...I'm going to go delete my previous comment now...
2006-12-28 [Linderel]: Umm, can you tell me why you want them removed? Just curious.
2006-12-28 [stevedoyle]: Wow, thanks everyone.
2006-12-28 [GoneGone]: I don't want them publicized any longer. Contest's over.
2006-12-28 [Linderel]: Alright, I guess that's fair. Done and done.
2006-12-28 [GoneGone]: Thank you.
2007-01-02 [Once upon a dream]: do the participants get a badge thingy?
2007-01-11 [Once upon a dream]: Can I just take one from here? Or does it need to be given to me or something?
2007-01-11 [Sunrose]: It has to be given to you, it's already on your house.
You were notified of receiving it: <gb:891733>
2007-01-16 [Once upon a dream]: Yeah, I kinda noticed that after I posted the last comment. Excuse my stupidity. Haha, but thankyou<3
