Welcome to the Elftown Member Directory. This is a little experiment put together by [Chimes]. See, I wanted to know how many active Elftowners we have here and what they get up to. Please, invite people to this page - I don't expect to get everyone but it would be interesting to see what most people do here.

If I get enough people, I will set up directory pages. These will make it easier for Elftowners to find other active Elftowners who roleplay or enter contests or host contests. These pages will also list availability of members, for example if they are available for art-trades, requests or commissions, or available to join a roleplay. I feel it would be a helpful resource.

How do I become part of the directory?
Becoming a part of the directory is easy, you simply sign your name and what you do here. If you do a huge amount please limit it to what you do the most.

I've been learning how to do amigurumi this week.. so far I've got .. half a lemon looking thing ha!, but at least I'm starting to get the technique :) single crochets, and the seamless increases, haven't tried decreases yet, but I think I can get it!(I could not crochet at all before this week, except for a starting chain.. lol!) Thank goodness for youtube!

2010-08-14 [Anvikit]: I know sc is just single crochet, a magic ring is when you start out and do like 5 single crochets in the same hole,

So when it says:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
That's your starting ring. Rnd1 is the first loop (6) refers to how many crochets to do.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Rnd 2 means the second round about of crochets. 2 sc in each sc around means, in each of the 6 holes do 2 single crochets a piece making it increase in size to a ring of 12

Rnd 3: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc around (18)
Rnd 3 third row of loops. single chain in the next loop then do 2 single crochets in the next loop and I believe it means repeat the process all the way around the 12 loops, increasing it to a total of 18 loops now.

but as i don't have a clue about most of the names of the crochet in english nor the short terms for them it's hard to understand how to read the patterns and do the crochet. if i just knew what they meant then i could check it online

2010-08-15 [Anvikit]: @[Ghost the Hybrid] Well with amigurumi it's mostly all single crochets is it not? So it doesn't much matter about the rest? sc= is your basic single crochet, dc= is double crochet, hdc= is half double crochet, trbl= I donno that one.. , inc= is increase (more than one single crochet in single loop), dec= is decrease

With amigurumi you should just have to worry about the sc= single crochet, inc= increase make bigger add more loops, and dec= decrease make smaller fewer loops.

2010-08-15 [windowframe]: Unless you're English, or using an English pattern, in which case the smallest stitch is a double crochet. American treble is English double, and so on, so an amigurumi in English is made all in dc. I don't know which system the rest of Europe uses, though. But it can be confusing when you're looking for patterns online if you forget that.

Also, a dec can also be written as sc2tog /dc2tog / tr2tog, which is fairly common. An inc is also commonly written as '2 dc in next dc'

Also, for decreases, do a quick youtube for 'invisible decrease method' - it's really great for amigurumi work.

If you're american, the small stitch you can do is a 'single crochet', if you're English, that same stitch is called a 'double crochet' - same stitch, it just has a different name. So if you're following an amigurumi pattern and it tells you to use SCs, you've got an American pattern, if it says use DCs, it's an English pattern. It's quite important to remember that when following other patterns - it's a bit of a disaster if you're jumper ends up half as long as it should because you did an American Treble stitch instead of an English Treble stitch. :P

a common notation for a decrease is dc2tog, (or tr2tog, etc, depending on what stitch you're doing), so if you use that, just remember that it's just a decrease.

Also, some patterns will write 'inc in next st' if they want you to do an increase, but some will write '2 dc in next st', so again, just remember they're the same thing.

2010-08-16 [windowframe]: You can (if you've got the patience) crochet (and knit) with wire. I've seen some pretty cool things made like that. I can imagine a crochet pattern for chain mail could look pretty neat if done in wire.

2010-08-18 [Anvikit]: maybe try going to the library or book store and seeing if they have any amigurumi books, my friend just got me one called "Amigurumi world, seriously cute crochet".. its got patterns and it lists all the crochet types and has little diagrams on how to do them. It also showed me that I should be joining both loops when I make my crochet.. not just one in the front. My stuff is looking so much prettier now! Im making a baby owl right now.

2010-08-19 [hanhepi]: yume: try looking for scrapbooking paper. i dunno if it's as big a thing in sweeden as it is here, but all our craft stores have an isle of pretty paper here for people who make scrapbooks. (it's a great resource for nice writing paper too. but the paper is more square than usual paper, so it might be good for origami.)

2010-08-30 [Anvikit]: There are many different kinds of scrap booking paper, some are really thin. I used some thin translucent paper for wings once. It's not all thick. I did finish my ami owl, it's cute. 2010-09-04 [Chimes]: I will go through and look every once in a while, yes. If someone hasn't logged in for long enough that they probably won't come back I will delete them and send them a message telling them that I did and if they come back to put themself back up.

So I decided not to quiet make a wiki like the MC, but of one were all the lounges/ archives/ and suc things can be found. I'm going to go on a search for wikis like the art one said previously and and wikis that fit into a different category. I'm going to encompass more of the elftown world then just small categories. See why I asked for help? ^-^

2010-09-04 [*Phoenix*]: Which one? I know there's Character Lounge for all sorts of characters and worlds that need characters. There's Text Adventures that lists a TON of roleplays. I think there might be a couple more that I know of if I search for them....

I think if you made it into categories, might help people find stuff if they're looking for something specific, like, art, writing, roleplaying, groups/clubs, etc.

2010-09-04 [Nioniel]: Elftown Community Activities is just active contests or ones that are still technically open, so that if people are looking for something to submit to that they could win or be featured with, the people who are running the contests are still online often or at least check in fairly regularly.

An elf from here am not sure, but a tea you will love, a tea to endure. A magical brew with nothing to lack, for think of it as a test of Rorschach. A tea you will see as which flavor you wish, but so much more goes into this dish. Sugar, cream, lemon and spice, anything and everything, it's all so nice.
